A mixed hotel, in an excellent location. However, the hotel building itself lets it down.
Pros: The hotel is in an unrivaled location, with rapid access to a beach, a lovely pool and excellent staff. The pool bar food is good, the gyros are just the same as anywhere you'd find in Greece. The staff at breakfast and the pool bar (same people) are kind, attentive and professional. Despite the language barrier (I speak no Greek) they were funny and catered to our requests as much as possible. The rooms are clean and have large balconies (from my experience) and the Aircon was adequate to cool the room.
Cons: The rooms of this hotel let it down. Our beds were hard, with only one anemic pillow. The showers weren't wall mounted, the lightbulbs were all different colours and either blinding or barely powerful enough to light the room. The WiFi could barely be described as such, as it appeared to last 15 minutes at most before cutting out. The owner was a tad gruff, getting annoyed at the concept of sand in the shower and not listening to a word the women in our group said. My personal room lacked a Do not disturb sign, meaning the cleaners appeared inside my room at 10am, which was a bit disturbing.
In conclusion, the location of this hotel is that of a 5 star hotel, but the rooms are more those of a 1970s 3 star hotel. With some modernising, this hotel could be absolutely excellent (and command a far higher rate per night). I would recommend this hotel for those intending to spend the majority of their time either by the sea, the pool or at the many historical/cultural sites that Messenia has to offer. For those looking for comfort and a luxury experience,...
Read moreThis hotel is basic but clean so close to the beach and bars unbelievable rooms cleaned regular towels changed, staff friendly. The room was quite small but had a big balcony we were on ground floor over looking the garden. They have a lovely roof terrace with a swing seat and tables and chairs. The shower was hot and powerfull but had to hand hold which can be a pain while washing your hair but typical of greece. Only 1 plug socket which was not fixed to the wall properly good job we took an extension lead. Only major downside for me was the breakfast only bread in basket with butter jams and a piece of madeira cake, tea and coffee and no option to change it,ive travelled all over greece and never had such a poor breakfast included. The hotel doesnt have a pool i did miss this but the beach is so close you dont real need it. Overall fab location to bars beach shops restaurants i would go again if a deal came up but i love to try other places every year for what we payed it was great we had...
Read moreWhile the pool was amazing, and the hotel's proximity to a small beach was fantastic, the overall experience was disappointing due to poor customer service. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the elderly manager, who, while not rude, seemed disengaged, distracted, unhelpful and very uncommunicative. Our room felt unwelcoming—very sparse and uncomfortable, more like a boarding house than a hotel. The breakfast the next morning was equally disappointing, with stale mini croissants and only a small selection of food. To make matters worse, the manager sat in the dining area during breakfast, staring at guests, which made us feel quite uncomfortable. Despite the lovely location and the potential for this hotel to be great, we felt so uncomfortable as a family of four that we left after breakfast and stayed elsewhere. This is the only time in Greece that we had to change accommodation. Otherwise, Finikounda is a really beautiful, interesting town and...
