We have just returned from 8 glorious days in Porto Cali. A new offering to the holiday let market – and we were lucky to enjoy the delights of this well thought out and gorgeous property.
Our brief was simple, contemporary luxury villa in secluded spot with a heated pool with sea views near some nice restaurants! We weren’t disappointed. On arrival there was a truly amazing range of produce, some homemade treats from Maria, gave us enough food and drink to save us going out directly to get food… thank you we really appreciated it (together with a load of gluten free products).
Communication from both Etouri and especially the owners prior to our stay was exemplary – (although we did get far cheaper car hire independently). The villa is set amongst an olive grove with far reaching views of the sea and the lengthy pool was perfect for doing lengths and cooling off. As it was October we did get it heated to 29 and was perfect – we were lucky with the weather as most days it was in the 30’s and high 20’s – with it becoming slightly cooler in the evenings.
We spent our days on what must be the most comfortable sun loungers we have ever enjoyed. All the outdoor furniture was of the highest quality, no expense had been spared. We enjoyed the ping pong table and outdoor sofa with coffee table set up for rounds of backgammon and cards (all provided) when we had tired of the sun! We read, slept and swam – not really wanting to leave the villa to explore the island (we will have to come back to do that!). We spent a day on the beaches of the south of the island, and went to the local Monastery (very popular) before retreating back to our books.
The kitchen has everything you could possibly need – two kitchens even – but we used only one. We ate outside for lunch, there is a wonderful BBQ with outdoor kitchen area. All the bedrooms have their own shower rooms (note no bath but not a problem for us) and the beds are very comfortable. Air conditioning in each room, together with mozzie screens on all the doors. TVs in each bedroom although we didn’t even switch them on!
Nikitas, Maria and their parents have created a wonderful home – with Kostas creating a truly beautiful garden with stunning planting that will surely take hold over the next few years – the orange trees will be bountiful. The olive groves were ladened with olives ready for harvesting – the olive oil is exceptional. Lambs wander by in the adjacent field.
Locally in Pigi was a chemist, small supermarket, butcher and a couple of tavernas so perfect if you don’t want to travel too far. However, only 15 minutes drive is the town of Rethymno. It is big – lots of bars, clubs, restaurants, supermarkets, tourist shops etc and a beach – not our scene but great for teenagers wanting to hit the bars. We found some wonderful restaurants though!
All in all a really lovely time – made so by Maria who was the perfect host and Nikitas who should be rightly proud of what he has created. Thank you both for a really wonderful,...
Read moreWe had an amazing stay in the villa. The outdoor area is beautiful and the furniture outside is the best of the best. Maria and her brother are super friendly and their father is of great help keeping the pool clean every morning (early before you wake up).
Upon arrival we had a warm welcome by Maria. The fridge was filled with drinks and food was available. And the own made sweets were amazing (and a lot) and we ate is all.
We had some extreme weather one night (sand storm) literally covering everything outside in a layer of sand and the next day the whole family was there in the morning to clean the whole outdoor area including pool to make sure our stay was perfect. And it was perfect because of the team who really cares even when the situation is out of their control. To highlight is the authorities shut down the water supply because everybody was cleaning after the sandstorm which made cleaning challenging but they did order a truck with water to fill the security tanks of the villa which they used for cleaning everything so we had water supply although authorities had shut down the regular supply. And this way they filled the pool again after completely cleaning it. Really service that goes further than you can ever imagine.
We dare to say this is the best villa on the island, the design, all furniture, 4 bathrooms, nice plates and glasses, cooking supplies. Everything is there.
We stayed here as a group of friends (8 people) a family with 2 kids (6 & 8 years old) plus 2 other couples and the split building was great for this.
We really enjoyed our stay and cannot thank the team enough for what they did to make our...
