We stayed in this hotel for three nights in mid-September. The hotel is set on a hillside in a series of Cycladic cubes. It is some way from the ferry port and whilst free transfers are provided to and from the hotel they are forced to stop at a parking area that is a good 10 minute walk with luggage from the jetty - this because the port area becomes congested and traffic is prohibited. A walk from the hotel to the ferry jetty/bus station without luggage took us (and we are elderly) 20 minutes plus – it is uphill returning from the port. There is no airport on Sifnos. The hotel was always comfortable in terms of occupancy but we cannot even guess how many rooms there might be. Guests with a mobility problem would need to talk with the hotel and be very well aware of its location. The hotel fronts a small road overlooking a plain towards the mountains with views to the sea. The hotel has a small car parking area immediately in front but there are other car parking areas close by. There is a reception desk letting onto a small soft seating area and opening onto a series of semi-covered and open terraces. The hotel has a swimming pool on one of these terraces. The hotel also has a spa but we did not use this. We had booked a Junior Suite and this was well worth the extra charge. In addition to a generously sized bedroom there was a small separate seating area furnished with a sofa and table and a second TV. There was a fridge and tea and coffee making facilities. There was no safe. The bedroom itself had a work surface with an adjacent wardrobe but without shelving. Shelves were effected by cubbyholes in the concrete walls – this was fine, but at times impractical and possibly insufficient for a long stay. Everything was very comfortable with reasonable quality bed linen changed during our stay. The bathroom was a reasonable size albeit a difficult shape. Toiletries were excellent (Apivita!) and towels were soft and there were plenty of them! Housekeeping was fine. We had an oblique view of the sea from our balcony. During our stay it was both hot and very windy and some areas did suffer from blown dust and leaves. Wifi was fine. Aircon was in the seating area and not effective enough in the bedroom. We experienced no noise at all – not from outside or the room above. |Breakfast was not served till 08:30 (and often late) and was something of a disappointment. It was a buffet that afforded primarily a cold selection. The selection was not particularly wide for vegetarians. Tables for breakfast were set out on the terraces and there were no waiting on services whatsoever. Replenishment of coffee and any additional food items meant a walk back to the buffet up and down steps. There was an all-day bar but no evening restaurant. Hotel reception were very helpful in directing guests to various restaurants at varying distances from the hotel. Our first night – after a late arrival – was spent in the bar with sensibly priced wine and an enjoyable environment. The bar was exceptionally good value. The reception staff were very helpful and had good English. Housekeeping was excellent. We saw no evidence of large groups. For a port town this hotel stood out amongst all the others. There are plenty of rooms, but few actual hotels. We felt the location of the town afforded more benefits than looking at Apollonia the island capital. There are plenty of restaurants, there are plenty of bars, but just...
Read moreNymfes Hotel has a reputation for its customer service. What an understatement! Mosha, her brother Giorgos and their entire family opened their arms to us and made us feel like family. From the moment they picked us up from the ferry, they were incredibly warm, helpful (I had hurt my leg just before leaving for Greece and was in a boot) and informative. Nymfes is a small, quaint hotel on the outskirts of the port city, which has all the advantages of proximity, but removed just enough that you can enjoy peace and quiet in the early morning or late evening.
As many have written, the morning starts with a sumptuous and varied breakfast by the pool area...yogurt, fruit (especially fresh apricots from their own trees), local baked goods, eggs, meats etc. The rooms all have balconies which we enjoyed every morning and evening. And the pool (which is kept crystal clear) is a wonderful way to end a day at the beach.
Mosha and Giorgos are incredibly knowledgeable about Sifnos, and can help with most if not all of your needs...restaurants, taxis, local sights etc.
An added bonus was going to Mosha's husband's (Gianni) ceramic workshop and storefront. He's as wonderful as the rest of the family and a very talented potter. Naturally, we had to purchase some beautiful and unusual pieces from him. We highly recommend Nymfes to anyone considering a relaxing stay in Sifnos...
Read moreThe Nymfes is very typical of a family run Greek island hotel. The hotel is spotlessly clean throughout and well presented, there are nice touches of local pottery used throughout the communal area. Breakfast buffet is one of the best we've had in Greece and what's particularly good is the coffee made to order. ||We had a standard double room which was quite small and with a very small bathroom; very similar to what we've encountered in other Greek hotels. This is totally fine for us but may not be for others if you are used to or expecting a big room. ||The location is approximately 2 min from the beach and 5 min from the main beach bars with sun beds and from the local restaurants in Kamares, it's definitely not a problem being ever so slightly further out. The hotel pick you up and drop you back at the port.||The Cyclades are windy and Kamares is no different, when we were there it was particularly windy and the valley acted as a wind tunnel. Whilst the Nymfes is slightly more exposed to the wind than some properties, the construction means that the outdoor breakfast area and the pool remains very sheltered which is a big advantage.||Mosha, her family and staff were all very friendly and I suspect if if hadn't been for Covid restrictions this welcome would have been even warmer but masks etc sometimes make this...
