Mathios Studios in Sapsila offers a truly welcoming and relaxed environment. There is a certain magnetism about the serenity of the vibrant garden, the congenial atmosphere, the sensational waters of nearby bays and the gentle attentiveness of the family. Giakoumina, who has been running the Studios for twenty years, greeted us with freshly-made greek coffee and some delicious cake still warm from the oven, a welcome refreshment after the long crossing from bustling Kos. There are a handful of studios of various sizes and a separate two-storey house in sandstone. All the accommodation has terrific views out into the Aegean and/or across to the port of Skala. Our spacious studio had a wonderfully large balcony offering spectacular views on three sides; there was king size bed; a further daybed and a dining table. The kitchenette was equipped with a small cooker including an oven and a couple of hot plates; the bathroom was adequate and there were fly screens on all windows. We enjoyed the thirty-minute walk to Skala and creating our own taverna-style meals in Sapsila. Where ever one goes on the island, the charm of Patmos and its people is astonishing. We will certainly return to the Dodecanese and, if at all possible, to the genuine hospitality offered by Mathios Studios.||Free...
Read moreMy wife and I first came across Mathios Studios (owned and run by Mathios and Giakoumina) quite by accident while on our way to Cyprus by boat. After searching futilely in Skala for something affordable that took our fancy - we followed a tip and ended up in Sapsila. We have been back to this pleasant oasis many times and still regard it as one of our favourite stays in Greece.||||It consists of a series of cool stone units woven into a garden of greenery and vegetables. On the top is a penthouse with a view of Sapsila bay and across the alleyway a small stone two storey house for four people - the jewel in the accommodation ranks.||||Then there are Mathios and Giakoumina ... and the cat. Welcoming, smiling, friendly and ever-helpful. Sapsila is a great spot to chill, read a book and take in the aura of Patmos. Highly recommended. Book yourself some space in thsi...
Read moreI stayed here for 5 days in July and I just loved it. The location in Sapsila means you need to have transportation but if you don't want to rent a scooter or car then you can call a taxi as you need it to come pick you up, that what I did. ||The location of Mathios studios is peaceful, quiet and beautiful, there is really nothing nearby except a great little swimming area behind the studios but it is really rocky so you may want to bring along some water shoes especially if you are taking children to swim there.||This place is perfect if you want to stay somewhere not overrun by tourists. My studio had a nice little balcony, a basic bathroom and the kitchen was good for making basic meals. The a/c and wifi worked just fine and as long as you are not looking for a fancy experience but more of a local one than you will probably love this place as...
