We were recommended the restaurant as the best in Patmos and were excited to try it out. The service was impeccable and the staff was friendly. However the overall experience did not lived up to the hype or the price at €85 per person. The home made bread was okay but not different to my home bread maker bread. You find excellent sourdough bread in many places in Greece. The Greek salad was interesting, but we had much better flavoured tomatoes in the traditional Greek salad in a humble taverna the following day at half the price. The calamari was excellent and the ginger sauce very tasty but not entirely sure the two complimented each other. The real let down was the fish of the day. It was fillet of συναγρίδα. Unfortunately it was completely dry and overcooked - easily done but not in a fine restaurant. The vegetables were very undercooked ( I like my vegetables firm but not raw ) and the sauce was salty. The dessert, was faultless. The classic taverna chairs were mildly uncomfortable, and the wine glasses were not crystal! We were not asked for feedback which we found rather disappointing. Overall, an upmarket pricy taverna and not exactly fine dining. Having said that if the main dish was better cooked it would have been a...
Read moreThe food is good and the setting is stunning. But be very careful when the bill arrives at the end. Bread was brought to the table without us asking for it, and we were charged for it twice — even though only my partner ate it, as I am gluten intolerant. This intolerance was mentioned clearly before the bread was brought. We were also charged for a bottle of sparkling water, even though we only had one bottle of still water. And most incredibly, we were billed for four margaritas supposedly ordered at the bar upon arrival. But the worst part was when, after politely pointing out the billing errors, the bar waiter came to our table with the head manager, claiming he “clearly remembered” serving us margaritas — even though the only interaction we had with him was when he handed us the menu and then came back once more, to which we replied that we had already ordered. We were told that it was “our word against his.” Never in our lives have we been treated this way. In the end, we did not pay the extra €70 that had been wrongly added to the bill — but we left with doubt in their eyes. Truly...
Read moreCame to Benetos with high expectations but was partly disappointed
Don’t get me wrong, everything we ordered was tasty (especially the soft shell crabs bao buns which were super tasty although slightly oily) and the cacio e pepe pasta with fresh truffle which was excellent.
However the ambience resembles more or a gala, or a very 90s wedding party than a nice dinner in Patmos by the sea.
Slightly pretentious without any need to be so. The location is perfect the food is good so just let these shine
Service is professional and quick
Prices are hugely inflated without any reason to be so. I can understand why you will charge 40€ for a sea urchin pasta (which indeed had lots of sea urchin) but better make it the best sea urchin pasta ever. Hint: it definitely was not (in comparison the 18€ cacio e pepe con truffle pasta was far tastier and more...
