This hotel was all in all a total disappointment. But you get what you pay for I guess. Room: the room was relatively clean. The housekeepers were very friendly and changed our sheets and towels regularly. However, there were numerous issues with the plumbing and air conditioning. The air condition in one bedroom didn't work at all, and when we confronted the owner he told us he would fix it, to which he didn't keep his word. Same goes for the kitchen tap. There literally was no water and the pipes were leaking. Again, when we told the owner he just dismissed it by telling us that a technician would come by. Fake promises. The windows didn't have screens, which means that if it was cool during the night and we didn't need to turn on the ac, we would open the windows and mosquitoes would come in. Very annoying. The bathtub had a weird uncomfortable design. The back part was shallower meanwhile the front part deeper. It was designed for you to sit while bathing or showering (I'll show a picture so you can understand). The window handle was too far up to reach, and while I was showering standing in the shallower part of the bathtub, I tried to reach it in order to open the window because the bathroom had turned into a sauna. Because I'm not 2 meters tall, my foot slipped and I fell, resulting in me hitting my butt pretty hard, as well as my elbow, because the bathtub didn't have any handles for me to hold onto to prevent the fall. The TV didn't have many channels. We had to fix it for ourselves for it to locate them properly. The breakfast was very mediocre, only frozen and packaged foods. I've stayed at 3 star hotels before and they served way better breakfast than this one. Pool was clean, from the looks of it. I didn't actually go in it myself. All the rooms, and I mean all of them, were occupied with (mostly) British tourists. Majority were teenage boys/young adults. As you can imagine, they were very loud and noisy. They left trash everywhere, and would return late at night drunk yelling. The only good thing about this hotel is the 2 cute doggies. I wish I'd taken a picture of them. Also the kittens, but I did take a picture of them. I trust that you can find something better than this.

For two stars brilliant budget friendly hotels. We stayed from 20. September 7 nights. We are already booked for next year. The hotel no crowded (maybe this why, but still nice to him) we pay studio but give 2 bedroom apartment. Everyday coming cleaning lady she’s friendly, bed comfortable, swimming pool good sized and clean. The manager is a nice guy but some British really terrible. Anyway he’s diplomatic and doing good job We no eating this place( we like to try different places every day) but the latte is very nice and cheap. If you stay this place you need car or motorcycle because bit far from everything. I can highly recommend Autoway family business car rental.

Slightly apprehensive about staying at the Portego after reading some negative reviews but glad to say my stay was good. Rooms are very basic, although clean and need some attention. Housekeeping staff cleaned daily & there was a regular supply of clean towels & bed linen. Buffet breakfast is basic, cheese, meat, eggs, toast, cereal, pastries etc. Nice & friendly staff. A good place to base yourself for exploring the beautiful island.

The reality of Portego's rooms! We stayed 8 nights in this horrible accommodation in two rooms. In first place they gave us 2 rooms very bad and old and we asked to change, and they did. The new rooms were just a little bit better. There had a very bad smell (hard to breathe) combined with umidity, with insects inside, rests of cigarettes under the bed, with glasses very dirty. The fridge was in a horrible state with a bad smell, full of rust, and was not cooling as it suppost to, immagine that a spider had his home inside. The cleaning was made on the 4th day only, but they don't clean as normal people do, only check the rooms and if you are lucky they change bedsheets. I used my own towels because them were yellow not white... The restroom from room nr 2 does not even closing at all(see pic). They are not paying attention on nothing, everywhere is dust, dirty and old. You are lucky if you are not returning home with some disease! Trust me, it is worse then I can explain! In 8 days I didn't see someone cleaning the pool. I'm not pretending to much it's a 2 **, but at least a decent and clean place to sleep. See the...

Didn’t believe the reviews when I first read them but this is the worst hotel that i’ve ever stayed at. Owner randomly storms into the room aggressively on multiple occasions and starts shouting, once even slapped me in the leg for harmlessly sitting in my friends room rather than my own. Furthermore the rooms are dirty and the location is terrible as it is far from everything and taxis can be expensive. I would strongly advise anyone to pay a bit extra for a better hotel and a better location. Stay away from portego hotel at all costs.

Regarding the reply from the owner to my review: There was 7 of us on the holiday so I don’t know where the number 11 has come from, sounds like he’s just making himself look better to me. We were not being loud at all, there was 3 of us in a room sat between 2 beds, the owner stormed in after looking through the balcony window and knowing that only 2 people are supposed to be staying in that room. Furthermore is there any excuse for shouting at and hitting one of...
