Hotel Garifuna sits comfortably in a Garifuna neighborhood. Staying here is like staying at your aunt's house with locals surrounding you. It's quiet, and in the evening time there's a nice breeze from the sea (a two minute walk down the street). Locals chill outside, which is cool to see. As a traveler who likes to see both sides of a town/city, staying at this hotel is a great opportunity to mingle with locals or at the very least appreciate their way of life. ||The rooms are super basic. Three beds equipped with good fans and a tiny bathroom that does the job. It's clean and secure, and best of all one of the cheapest in town. My partner and I paid Q100 for a night for the two of us, which was great. Unlike some 'cheap' places, I wasn't fearing for my life with bugs or seedy people or any of the sort. Also, it's just off one of the main streets. || If you don't need frills, this is the place to stay. I recommend it. If you want 'nice' you'll have to pay a little...
Read moreThis hotel is a great option for budget travellers - our room cost just 100Q for a private double with ensuite bathroom. Room is simple but good, and the wifi worked well enough. ||Location is good (up at the back of town) and there's also a fantastic pupuseria close by, which is the best value place we found in town (it's called pupuseria lupita or something along those lines. Find it by turning right out the hotel, left when you hit the main street and then look left when you hit the t junction and its just a few doors down). ||||We were only in Livingston overnight on our way through and didn't see much to recommend the town, but if you are going through then hotel garifuna is definitely the best value option - we spoke to a few others on the boat the next day and were easily the most satisfied...
Read moreThis is probably the best overall bargain in town. The hotel is well-located just over a block uphill from the Caribbean sea in one direction, and the Market Street in the other. It's walking distance from the main street, the local cathedral and church, the famous town cemetery, and most of the attractions this little village offers. In the middle of the Garifuna community, I got to know the place as "Garifuna-central." Best of all, this is a family-run operation, and the family is one of the nicest to be met here or anywhere else. The rooms are cleaned daily and the service is friendly. I had only planned to stay a couple of weeks, but ended up staying here almost 8 months!. I will visit again, and am, in fact, planning a trip...
