First off, the Hotel Gil has a great location, seafront on a quiet street just two blocks from the intersection of the two main streets in town. It’s steep hillside location offers multiple levels to view the sea and enjoy the breeze, all the way down to a small pier with a covered deck, where you can make excellent photos of passing dories, seabirds, etc., though you can’t walk on this seafront as it is all private and fenced off. The walk down to the sea involves around five flights of stairs, and seems to have various rooms located along the way. This is a peaceful sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of Livingston. The main building is secure, with a 24 hour presence on the main floor. The pillows were comfortable. The a/c works. These are all the reasons to stay at Gil. On the negative side, the mattress was worn, so you could feel the springs. The see through sheets were thin as negligee, and really needed to be replaced. The walls between some rooms are very thin, so you can hear your neighbor snore, talk, watch tv, and anything else they might be doing. The hotel is very stingy with towels and linens. One shared bath towel for two people, no room service from day to day. No public phone and would not let us use the hotel phone to make a local call. No drinking water supplied other than cups of water in the lobby. Warm shower water comes from electric agua muerte showerhead. Must pay for your full stay at check in. At the time we were there they were cut off from the credit card system, so payment is in cash. They allow you time to walk to the ATM to retrieve cash, which might wipe out your max cash allotment for the day. In all, it was a nice to have this peaceful sanctuary, but it was not worth the premium price. Could be a noisy time if the hotel...
Read moreMe and my family were there in August, the location is very convenient, the water taxi will leave you right at the hotel's dock which is a few steps and stairs from the reception area. Prices are very reasonable and breakfast in the morning was fresh and very good. The Mgr and the staff went went above and beyond to make our stay pleasant. They were pleasant and helpful. Rooms have AC (believe me you will need it) and they were clean considering how hard is to keep a completely bug free room when they are right by the water. There is no beach but you can take a boat to playa blanca (the hotel will gladly arrange) or you can take a cab to a close-by beach. They have nice views of the water. They have WIFI and cold soda and beer. We took a boat ride to rio dulce, it was amazing to sea the beauty of the river, there is an area on the river banks that looks like a waterlily garden, as soon as the boat slowed down, little girls in canoes approached us from both sides to sell their hand made seashells bracelets and other handmade goods at a very low price. My daughter (12) was shocked to see these little ones rowing their canoes and selling handmade goods to help support their families. Overall it was a great trip and a comfortable stay, will definitely go back to this hotel! ...
Read moreLivingston will ner be known for the quality of its hotels. Most of them are old and not very beautiful. In this context, a place like Hotel Gil outstands because of the warm management of her owner, Silvia and also the cleanliness of the hotel. It has amazing views (it's in front of the sea and it has its own jetty). They offer small trips to Playa Blanca and Siete Altares (which we didn't take because we went with a collective boat with Happy Fish, a small agency in the main street, but note that they can organize it too). Breakfast was very good and they were very kind to provide it before schedule because of our early departure. A good option in Livingston where you will be...
