This is not the first time we've eaten at the Kulacs Csarda Panzio and it won't be our last. We've been coming here since 2012 and make a point of visiting Eger whenever we are in Hungary just to eat here.||The food is amazing and the prices are reasonable. There are many options including authentic soups, salads and main courses. I'm afraid I can't comment on the desserts, because we ate so much during the meal that dessert was not an option.||We are often disappointed in how touristy Hungarian restaurants are these days. This restaurant caters to tourists, with menus in a variety of languages, but the dishes, preparation and ingredients are exactly what I remember from the past.||My favorite dish is a very simple country meal called fried cabbage noodles. I ordered it for dinner, along with a cucumber salad and it was exactly as I remembered. So delicious! My husband ordered a bowl of soup and a plate of stuffed cabbage. We've been disappointed with stuffed cabbage main courses at "authentic" and very pricey Hungarian restaurant in Budapest - because the dish was prepared with American style ground beef. Not so at the Kulacs Csarda Panzio. The stuffed cabbage was made with pork and was delicious! We also shared a lovely bottle of local cabernet. ||This restaurant has a lovely outdoor eating area shaded by a grape arbor. Unfortunately, it was too cold to eat outside this October. If you can, visit during more temperate weather and eat outside.||However, indoors we were treated to music by a trio playing Gypsie music on a violin, bass and cymbolin. ||We were not able to stay at the hotel, as it was booked. I'm looking forward to our next visit. This restaurant is my favorite in all of Hungary and I'm...

This is our favourite restaurant in Eger which is why, whenever we're in Eger, we come for here to eat. The food is great. The atmosphere is great. And, to top it off, the staff are friendly and very accommodating.
Our only complaint are the so called tradional Hungarian pickles and salads, but our complaint doesn't just apply to this restaurant but most Hungarian restaurants in general, and even stalls selling what they claim are tradional Hungarian savanyúság (pickles) and salads, such as uborkasaláta (cucumber salad).
For whatever reason, Hungarians have started making these pickles and salads incredibly sweet that one would think we are in America. All of these salads are so sugary and sweet they have lost that tradional flavour and freshness they were famous for, and some even use sweeteners, which further ruin the flavours. Oh, and they seem to leave out all the details from these pickles and salads, such as the crushed garlic, peppercorns, caraway seeds, and other herbs and spices.
Unfortunately, the same is true with the pickles and salads at this restaurant as well.
I hope this, and most Hungarian restaurants, revived the tradional Hungarian flavours and methods of making these otherwise refreshing pickles and salads that make for the perfect accompaniments to the traditional Hungarian foods, such as their pörkölt (stew). One can but hope that this restaurant takes up...
Read moreWe traveled with our 18-year old son. Booking a triple, we were accustomed to sofa sleeper being opened, what makes most rooms very cramped. Not here! We were given a suite of two private rooms, hallway and a bathroom. Hostess was preoccupied about us smoking and good that she did, as we hate the smell of nicotine. Our breakfast table was just outside of our door - no need to go down to a common area.||Good breakfast too! Nice restaurant on premises with Gypsy music. You can open windows, but quiet A/C is also available. Great choice, great location. Taxi to town center is less than $4. Wine cellars with tasting available are 3 min walking distance. Beware of the fast food joints up the street with pictures of dishes and description in 5 languages. We asked for ... calamari out of curiosity. This consisted of 5 rings (like onion rings) placed on a heap of French fries (2 lbs). Unique experience. Better eat at the...
