Borostyán Panzió — Hotel in Kaposvári járás

Most foreign visitors to Hungary arrive by air, and therefore are more or less forced to go to Budapest. The capital is an important place, there are things there that you won't find elsewhere, and a good time can indeed be had, but of course Budapest isn't Hungary and I often think that the best of the country is to be found in the provincial towns, where there is much of interest and the pace of life is less frantic. The Hungarian tourist industry really does not do the provinces justice, so visiting these areas requires a bit more effort on the part of the visitor, who has to prise out the information and ideas that he needs – but it can be done, and is well worth the trouble. Much can be achieved through the internet.||||This is fresh in my mind as, living in Zánka, on the north side of Lake Balaton, I have just been to Kaposvár, about 50 Km from the lake on the south side. Kaposvár, population about 50,000, is the principal town of Somogy County and the birthplace of Imre Nagy, ill-fated prime minister during the 1956 revolution. There are a number of interesting things to see, chief of which are a famous theatre and a quantity of Art Nouveau architecture, but the main attraction to the tourist is that the town is an excellent centre for the exploration of a lovely part of Hungary, rich in history and scenically attractive, but little known to British visitors who just don't know what they're missing.||||I stayed in a three-star panzió called Borostyán (the name means 'ivy', though the only ivy in evidence is that painted round the entrance) which provides all that a hotel should in terms of welcome and comfort at very reasonable cost indeed (dinner, bed and breakfast cost me about ₤40) and some at least of the staff speak English. The hotel has recently refurbished and reopened its own restaurant, where the food is excellent, generously supplied and elegantly served – as are the accompanying wines – at moderate cost, witness the number of local people dining. Obviously, dead of winter is not the best time to go – I was on business – but at other seasons those prepared to go off the beaten track will have a memorable time in...

Ami tetszett: Egyik legnagyobb meglepetésem mióta szállodázok, valamiért azt hittem egy max 2 szobás apartman lesz, amiből az egyik az enyém, és kulcsos rendszerben kapok egy kódot. De ez egy rendes panzió, 10-15 szobával. A szoba nagyon tágas volt, különösen a fürdőszoba nagyon tetszett, szépen fel volt újítva, vagy akár vadi új. A bútorzat, ajtók, kifogástalanok. A matrac ugyan lehetett volna kicsit kényelmesebb (de ez egyéni preferencia, van aki ezt szereti), a világítás tökéletes, mini bár is volt, és egyáltalán nem volt túlárazva, (életet menthet, amikor ünnep idején minden, de tényleg minden be van zárva). Volt egy kis étkezősarok is, a klíma tökéletesen működött, a TV ugyan nem smart, Netflixet nem nézhetsz, de volt elég csatorna, wif-fi szolgáltatás, és éjszakai portaszolgálat. És nagyon meglepett, hogy a szobában található füzetben mennyire részletesen leírták a tudnivalókat. A személyzet minden tagja maximálisan kedves, segítőkész és udvarias volt, és ár-értékarányban szerintem verhetetlen ez a hely, plusz nagyon közel esik a központhoz (öt perc séta), de nem annyira, hogy a tivornyázás felverjen ha aludni akarsz, ha pedig vonattal érkezel Kaposvárra, akkor ennél jobb helyet nem is találhatsz. Egyértelműen a marketingen kellene változtatni, mert ahogy láttam nem sok vendég volt, pedig a legtöbb szálloda teltházzal ment. Ami talán probléma, hogy rengeteg lépcsőn kell feljutni a recepcióig és aztán a szobába is, tisztára mint Firenzében.

És ami nem: Hát a reggeli. Az mindenképpen pozitív, hogy bár utolsó pillanatban szóltunk becsekkoláskor, mégis szereztek másnapra barátnőmnek alternatív növényi tejet, és gluténmentes pékárut. Viszont. Egy ilyen szuper hely nem engedheti meg magának, hogy ennyire semmilyen reggelije legyen. Választék nagyon kevés volt, a virsli minősége ócska, az ivóleveké szintén. Bacon nincs, a tojásrántotta rendben volt, de az is le volt fogyva félórával kezdés után. És minden miatt szólni kellett. Ha a kontinentális reggelit kirakják svédasztalra, akkor azt illik feltölteni. Ha kevés a vendég, akkor meg legyen rendeléses alapú, és akkor megmondom, hogy kérek három lágytojást, meg két virslit, stb. De ezt el kell dönteni, ne nekem kelljen kitalálni. Ez így nem érte meg a 3000 forintot, vagy az árát kell csökkenteni, vagy - és én inkább ezt javasolnám - jobb minőségű italokat, (különösen narancslét, mert azon aztán megérződik) és pláne virslit beszerezni, mert akkor ez lenne a bokréta azon a szép kis csomagon, amit jelenleg ez a hely képvisel. És nem kerülne...

We spent a week with family in the hotel. Pros:||The hotel is situated close to the downtown area of Kaposvar, not far from the bath.||The bathroom was big and nice.||The price.||||Cons:||Unfortunately our rooms looked at the street that was pretty loud.||The minibar/fridge was also loud that was a bit annoying.||The minisafe was out of order (batteries out), but noone was to change the batteries.||The wall smelled in the room a bit mouldy due to a previous flooding.||The wifi signal was too weak in the room.||||All in all it's an ok hotel, if your expectations are not too high, and you look for a place...
