Positive aspects: Beautiful location right on a stream nestled in a valley filled with geo thermal vents. Steam rising from the ground all around you. Beautiful hot tubs along the stream. Heated pool. Helpful, friendly service. Nicely decorated. Beautiful sun room for dining room. Perfect included breakfast. Best smoothies ever! Fabulous dinner (although very expensive. Dinner for two was over $200 with one glass of wine). Negative Aspect: Our room was number 1 and faced the front walkway and parking lot. Everyone walked right passed our windows and door. There was no air conditioning so we left our window and door open as much as we could to let in the nice outdoor air. However, we had to leave our light block out drapes closed when in our room so no one could look in on us. It felt weird. I tried to get moved to a better location but they were sold out. If you stay here request a room facing the stream or away from the reception area. The room is cute but the designer chose form over function. No closet or wardrobe (armoire), no drawers in the night stands and only one night stand that supported anything other than a lamp, so no place to put your phone, glasses or a glass of water near the bed for one of two people. No shelving for putting your clothes on, so we “lived” out of our suitcases all over the floor near the windows beside the bed. Same story for the bathroom. Great design elements and really nice shower head with handheld shower included, but no where to put your toiletries. This made it challenging. We dealt with it - but it would have been nice and easy to accomplish for the designer to add a couple of shelves in the bathroom on the wall. Anyhow, if there had been a bit more functionality in the room I would rate this experience a five. I would definitely come back if I could book a different...
Read moreWe just spent 10 days in late January traveling throughout southern Iceland, staying in a wide variety of locations. We booked two nights at Frost & Fire based on the other glowing reviews. We were disappointed to find that this hotel is ridiculously overpriced for what it offers, in comparison to all of the other hotels we visited. If "boutique" means tiny outdated rooms, a chaotic layout, poor communication from staff, and lack of grounds maintenance, then Frost & Fire fits the definition. For example, the paths and steps to the highly-promoted hot tubs, and even to the rooms, were treacherous, unshoveled, and icy for our entire visit. Liability exposure aside, it just isn't very welcoming. Really, how hard would it be to just run a shovel over the paths each morning? And the "heated pool" was frozen over with slush and closed. Sadly, we also never got to try the highly-touted restaurant, since (without warning us when we checked in) they had booked a private wedding party and closed the restaurant when we would have had dinner there. Apparently the restaurant is a separate business from the hotel. Our room had a nice view of the river, but it was a tired 1970s-era construction, with absolutely no sound insulation between rooms. The shared balcony/porch along all of the riverfront-view rooms was a bit odd, with the potential for guests from adjoining rooms to wander by your windows and gawk anytime. And the porch lights from the adjoining rooms shine directly into your room, making it less appealing to leave your curtains open to see the evening views. Overall, the hotel has seen better days, and certainly does not offer value compared to any of the other...
Read moreLet me start out by highlighting the fact that we planned our Icelandic wedding from across the world. Never once setting foot in Iceland or let alone Hveragerði. We decided on Iceland as its somewhat close to both Canada and Norway making it accessible for our friends and family to meet in the middle. After some extensive internet research we landed on Frost and Fire not only for its epic landscapes and its reputation as the geothermal capital, but also because they were extremely easy to communicate with from day one. We had a small party of 45 guest coming from 8 different countries and Frost and Fire was the chillest, most flexible and professional host you could ever dream of, and lets not forget about the the food!! Chef Emil were on top of it, his recommendation sounded like a saga itself (slow-cooked lamb in the hot spring, moss-pure, langoustine soup just to mention a few) and the meal passed any expectation we possibly had. We had a solid plan to begin with and made some adjustments on the go (as usually happens in life) The staff at Frost & Fire was nothing short of amazing and made our stay there seem like a well orchestrated dream symphony. I would recommend it highly for every occasion as this is a little gem hidden away in the wild Icelandic landscape. Make sure you do yourself a favor and jump in the river at one point, the hot-tub will warm...
