Umaiyyal Home Stay — Hotel in Agastheeswaram

Our stay at Umaiyyal Homestay was an absolute nightmare. We had a late-night check-in, and just when we needed rest, the electricity went out. To make matters worse, there was no generator backup. The entire place was in complete darkness, and the power kept tripping throughout the night, making it impossible to sleep peacefully.

The air conditioning didn't work due to the constant power failures, which made the room extremely uncomfortable and hot. In the morning, things didn't get any better—there was no water heater, the shower was broken, and we couldn’t even have a decent bath. The frustration just kept piling up.

Though the rooms were reasonably clean, the space was completely inadequate. We had booked for 4 adults and 4 children (ages 2, 10, 12, and 14) and had requested two rooms. Instead, we were given just one usable room with only one bed that could barely fit three people. The sleeping arrangement was a disaster.

To top it all off, the breakfast was awful. The coconut chutney was spoiled, and overall food quality was terrible. During checkout, they even had the audacity to demand an extra Rs.1200 for no valid reason.

The staff was completely inactive, unhelpful, and seemed clueless throughout our stay. This place is poorly managed and not worth anyone’s time or money.

Do yourself a favor and stay far away from Umaiyyal Homestay. One of the worst travel...

I got carried over by the "Treebo" brand, but this place is a private Home stay with a basic tie-up with Treebo.

While the "Maple" rooms are decent, there is much needed for it to retain the "Treebo" brand - not electric kettle, no tea bags - not even a complementary bottle of drinking water. The complementary breakfast was the same everyday - idlis, Vada and dosa - acquired from a neighbouring (roadside) shop.

Regarding location, it is not ideal for those who want quick access to Kanyakumari beach. It is about a kilometre to the main road - and from there another 1.5km to the beach or boat jetty.

Umaiyyal Home Stay has a decent car park to fit about 6-7 hatchbacks. That is a plus.

Overall, I would recommend this place only as options 2 or 3. There are better...

From the moment we checked in, we were met with rudeness, but things escalated to a shocking level when we had a simple question about our booking. Instead of helping us, the receptionist yelled at us and went so far as to call us "illiterates"—yes, you read that right. I have never in my life been treated with such hostility at a hotel, let alone one that claims to provide hospitality.

The rest of the experience wasn’t much better. The rooms were subpar, the service was nonexistent, and the entire atmosphere of the hotel was unwelcoming. But honestly, all of that pales in comparison to the way we were disrespected by the staff.

Do yourself a favor and book literally anywhere else. This place doesn’t deserve your money...
