Arulmigu Guhanatheeswarar Temple – Kanyakumari 🌺
📍 Location & History
The temple is located near the Kanyakumari railway station and is believed to have been built over 1000 years ago by the Chola king Raja Raja Chola.
Its architecture follows the traditional Chola style with intricate carvings and a sacred layout.
🔱 Main Deity & Worship
The presiding deity is Lord Shiva, worshipped in the form of a powerful 5.5-foot-tall Shivalingam.
Devotees first take a holy dip at the Triveni Sangamam (confluence of three seas), then offer prayers to Lord Bhairava during Rahu Kalam (inauspicious time) on Saturdays.
The temple is famous for its 1008 Shankha (conch) abhishekam during the Thiruvathirai star day in the Tamil month of Purattasi.
Other special rituals include the Mangkanith Thiruvizha celebrated on the full moon day of the Tamil month of Aani, and special prayers during the Karthigai Mondays.

The temple includes sanctum sanctorum (garbhagriha), ardha mandapam, maha mandapam, inner and outer praharams (corridors).
There is a small garden and Nandavanam (flower garden) in front of the temple.
Inside the temple, idols of Dakshinamurthy, Navagrahas, Kanni Vinayagar, Gajalakshmi, Murugan with Valli and Deivanai, Durga, and Kala Bhairavar can be found.
