Phoenix Holiday Home - A Resort in Kanyakumari — Hotel in Agastheeswaram

We had booked this place based on the high ratings on google. But our experience was quite opposite.

We had booked 3 bed rooms and kitchen. Check-in time is 12:00 noon. As we had to check-in at 7:00 am in the morning, while making booking we had aksed the owner for early check-in and he had agreed for the same with about 25% extra tariff for early check-in. But on reaching there, we were given only 2 rooms (with 1 bathroom) that too not in Phoenix, but in other holiday home (VLS holiday home) behind Phoenix. For the third room, we had to wait for about 3 hours and the third rooms was given in Phoenix on first floor. In this way, our family group was scattered. Some of us had to stay in VLS holiday home and others in Phoenix holiday home. In this way, some of our bags and eatables were in one building and others in other building and so all the time we had to move between both the buildings for our needs. We, therefore, advise that anyone, while making booking, should get it clear from the owner that they will give all the rooms in one building or in separate buildings.

Stairs to the first floor in Phoenix holiday home are steep and narrow. So if you are traveling with person who have problem in going through stairs, avoid this place.

Some rooms are small, while some are okay in size. Beds in rooms are smaller than the normal size of double bed (picture attached). Mattresses are of very poor quality. Any persons suffering from arthritis, cervical spondolytis, back pain should avoid such mattresses.

However, rooms were clean and having air conditioner. Facility of drinking water and wifi was also available. Kitchen facility is there in Phoenix but in the limited utensils available, you can make only tea/coffee/maggi. Milk/tea powder/coffee powder can be bought from the shops nearby. Kitchen has refrigerator also.

The toilet in the room on VLS holiday home was okay, but the toilet in Phoenix holiday home was small. Though geyser was there in both the toilets.

Most annoying is that they don't have any good person as Manager / caretaker. There is just a caretaker, who does not seem interested in taking much care of guests. More than a caretaker, he seems like a watchman who focuses only on ensuring that guests pay full tariff at the time of check-in itself. He knows very little Hindi/English. So it becomes very difficult to communicate with him for any need.

For food, they give you a phone number, on which you can order. The food quality is okay and delivery is fairly quick.

Location is not good, but okay. It is at about 0.5 km from main road. There is no lawn or open space in the holiday home. The Approach road to VLS holiday home is narrow and muddy.

Overall, we don't recommend this place to anybody because the owner/caretaker do not bother to give their guests a comfortable and smooth stay. They expect their guests to somehow stay and manage things...

This place is in residential area of kanyakumari. Easy to locate. We stayed on ground floor. It has 2 rooms. 3 cots ( one in each room and one in hall). They provided blankets. Ac was working in both rooms. Bathrooms are clean and manageable. Tv, wifi was working. Manager is helpful. Knows Tamil, English and Hindi. Small shop is available nearby for milk and basic stuff. Memorial is just one km away. Good to accommodate 6-8 adults. Driver's washroom arrangement (was done in some nearby area) also taken care by them which helped us alot. Water filter is available and working.

Few observations/dislikes:

One bathroom is outside. It's in the premises only. You may need to walk like 20 steps to reach but it is not inside the house. If there are lot of people and need to access both bathrooms in night, it can be an issue.

There were lot of mosquitoes and no coil was there.

Bathrooms did not have anything to sit which can help taking bath.

Kitchen is available and can only be used for tea coffee. If you want to prepare own food then it's chargeable. While the charge may be dependent on few things which I am not sure of. Owner quoted 300rs for only gas utilization of one time meal for 5 people. It's obvious that food raw material etc have to be purchased by us.

Washing machine available but again chargeable. We were told 100rs for one time uses.

There was no one to help with the luggage while checking in. If someone gets alloted rooms on first floor then it may be an issue as you need to drag luggage on your own.

Fans in both rooms were not having regulator. They will always run at highest speed which may not be a...

Phoenix Holiday Home is an excellent choice to stay in Kanyakumari. This place is located in a great spot in a peaceful neighborhood, and important tourish attractions and railway station are at walkable distances. The space is well ventilated, located on the first floor. The property is well maintained, and the entire place is safe and hygienic. The space also houses an inverter power back up, which was of great help during power outage. It also has a nice terrace where we can enjoy the evenings peacefully. The complimentary breakfast provided here deserves a special mention. They serve delicious South Indian home cooked food, and the quantity was adequate. Don't miss that during your stay!

One of the best things about this property is its manager, Mr. Krishnan. He is a wonderful human being and goes the extra mile to make sure we have a comfortable stay. He was extremely helpful in guiding us to navigate the city and also arranged reliable cab services on request.
