There are definitely some good aspects of this hotel. The price represented good value vis-a-vis the quality of the room. It wasn’t luxurious by any means, but the room was clean, the linens were decent quality and in decent shape, and everything in the room worked as intended (although the hot water took about 15 minutes to turn on, something which wasn’t mentioned by the staff).
But there were two big issues that would prevent me from staying here again. The first issue, as mentioned by others, is the horrible wifi situation. Easily the slowest WiFi I’ve experienced since the days of dial up modems 20+ years ago. The WiFi also disconnected frequently, which made working and using your phone impossible. Couple that with needing an Indian phone number to use it without a workaround from the staff makes this a tough sell.
The other big issue was the staff situation. While some were quite helpful, others were either very inexperienced, very apathetic, or spoke little English. It was hit or miss. The reason for all of this is the fact that this hotel uses a “virtual receptionist” when you check in. I kid you not. You stand in front of a TV screen and talk to someone on zoom. It is so impersonal and makes fixing issues with payment, internet access, etc. extremely frustrating. The employees at the hotel aren’t trained receptionists, so if you want that service you need to get on a zoom call. A terrible idea when it comes to an industry that is literally called the “hospitality” industry.
If you are Indian and/or have an Indian phone number, you don’t care about working WiFi, and you don’t anticipate needing to (or wanting to) talk to an employee who speaks good English, I could see this being a great option. But for the aforementioned reasons, I wouldn’t stay here again and wouldn’t recommend it to tourists who...
Read moreMy decision to stay at Olive Le Opera by Embassy Group was made in the spur of the moment, and I know it was the best one.
All the staff were exceptional, helpful and very courteous and made me feel safe.
It was clean and well located and had a luxury feel. At no point did I feel that this venue was not worth it. The amenities, the service, the location, the feel, made it all worthwhile. I truly appreciate the brand and what they stand for. Even the check in was remote and comfortable, without much hassle. It’s safe to say for the first time ever, I enjoyed my check in process at a hotel.
They were quick to send extra water bottles and tea sachets to my room without any wait time. They are more efficient than most bigger 5-star hotels.
There were a few shortcomings - There was no tissue paper in the toilet despite requesting it several times. There could have been an umbrella service provided by the hotel to the guests staying there upon pick up and drop off from the car right in front of the hotel, as it was monsoon season.
But keeping these reasons apart, I would stay at Olive Le Opera by Embassy...
Read moreI traveled half the world but nowhere did I have a worse experience with customer service than at this place. Finding a good hotel in India is challenging; I spent an hour reviewing all the options and reviews until I found Olive Le Opera. I went there from the airport for an hour just to be told they couldn't accommodate me because they didn't have the necessary documents for foreign guests. They gave me a choice of other hotels in their network, but none matched up to this one, they all have very bad reviews. If is the customer service the same I can see why. After a long conversation and explanation, I gave up and chose a hotel that looks worse and has terrible reviews, but what else could I do? I expected a discount for this situation, instead, they informed me that I had to pay extra for the new hotel, and they couldn't arrange a taxi for me to get there myself. I've never been so disappointed and angry at a hotel manager. A dreadful experience. Now I have another hour of searching and an hour of moving to another hotel, so I've lost half a day...
