Calangute Residency (GTDC) — Hotel in Goa

It was a decent stay for us at Calangute Residency for 3 nights and 4 days with some good and bad experiences. Location wise this is the closest and the best place to stay near Calangute beach which is only 100 meters away from the resort. You can see the sea from the resort as well. Resort is nice, clean and well maintained. We were 4 persons and got 2 adjacent rooms on the same floor with a common door that connects both the rooms from inside. Rooms, bedsheets, towels, bathrooms were clean. Mini fridges of both the rooms were defective. We asked room service to fix them and they fixed it within 30 minutes. Every day in the morning room service guys used to clean rooms, bathrooms, change bedsheets and towels as a routine. We even asked for extra pillows and got them quickly. So we were quite satisfied with the room service. But the problem we faced was AC in one of the rooms was leaking and water was coming out drop by drop on the bed at night after it ran for 5 hours at a stretch. As it was 4am in the morning, we had to move the bed a bit so that we can sleep without any disturbance. Next day reported the same to the manager and he immediately sent electrician to fix the AC and it got fixed. Management and staffs were very helpful and well behaved. None of the room service guys ever asked for any tip like they do in other hotels. Moreover you can see security guards always on duty within the property at different gates which was good for tourists like us. Food we didn't try there so can't comment on that but there's a separate veg restaurant which is open for all where we had breakfast and it was like some regular veg restaurant. There's a beautiful view of the Calangute beach from the restaurant. You can get cabs at affordable rates from the reception for local sight seeing and airport drop. We were a group of 6 friends who landed up at the hotel on a long weekend and had a smooth check in. The staff was courteous and we got the rooms we'd requested for. The room was good and had a lovely beach view. We saw the sunset, headed out for dinner and returned to our room later in the night. It had been only 20 minutes since we dozed off and were wide awake at something felt itchy. Upon moving around to our horror we discovered there were bed bugs below our pillows. We called the house keeping staff to inspect and asked to change the room. We moved to the garden cottage at 2 am and slept that night. The next night the same story continued, the room at the garden cottage was also infested with bed bugs. We cleaned up and slept at the same place. Next day we asked if our beach facing room was ready and asked to shift back there. The bugs again welcomed us and we asked to move in to another room considering we had a long travel back home the next day. Thankfully the room was decent and we slept well. So while the pool and breakfast was good, the place well located (right at Calangute beach) the bugs made our stay terrible. Can't believe GTDC would have such poor hygiene levels. Of course they stayed it was the travellers who got the insects with them. But we observed it was the beds headboard that were the breeding spot and that needed to be changed or done away with. The staff was accommodative but each night was nothing less than a horror to be in bed with the stranger bugs. Our friends also happened to have a few bugs in their rooms but not as bad as our situation. So here's a frank opinion - cheaper option, but book at your own risk. P.S. this property is the only one which is connected to beach on calangute beach so we opted this for beach market and moreover we already stayed here years back so wanted to stay again coz of last good experience but now i cant say same about it again as we checked in by 5 o'clock we order some snacks like idli wada dosa so they sent all stale food idli was from morning breakfast wada was also same and again they heated and gave to us so it became very hard to eat sambar was also stale only dosa was freshly made, never seen this type of ignorance in food. Ever the night shift manager is very rude i am staying with my twins 4 years kids and mother he refused to give me extra bed while morning manager was totally ok with extra mattress. How can we 4 people should sleep on double bed, while i was having conversation on call he directly disconnected the call. I have my 4 night stay booking here but its just first day and i am feeling not to stay here, other staff is good but when manager is rude what other staff will do. Never gonna stay again in calangute residency then too we are often visitor of goa. Who dont have budget they can come n tollerate this humiliation but who can afford i would say stay at good places dont go for beach connected thing coz the property also became very old.
