Take the road that leads to the river at the edge of the Old Manali village; a short hike up through the narrow trodden pathway and you will reach this beautiful house nestled amidst a sprawling apple orchard with few plum and pear trees here and there. It is a 1BHK house; the rooms are spacious and well furnished, the windows are huge feeding in a generous amount of sunlight throughout the day. The sun rise from the bedroom is nothing short of a spectacle, the afternoons are warm on usual sunny days, the sunsets are straight from one of those dreamy hamlets you have read about only in books and the nights are chilly. The house has a big kitchen where we'd cook wild mushrooms with the best of friends and play UNO while we're waiting patiently for the delicious food to be served. Often we'd go up on the terrace at night tucked inside warm jackets as it gets really windy. We'd spend long time gazing at the vast starlit sky and the trail of the milky way. Also, you cannot reach this place by driving. You gotta hike up and down a little everyday to actually relish the splendor of living in this house. It has wifi connection and good internet speed enabling you to work smoothly if you have a remote job. I spent around six summer months of the year 2021 living in this cozy place and it was by far the most beautiful time I had ever spent on the mountains, so quiet that I'd only hear the unadulterated singing of birds all day and the air so clean that I could smell the earth, the leaves and the buds precisely. What I earned there were memories whose impression remains unmatched to any other I had made while living in the mountains. What I have left behind is a family of precious people I long to go back to (also a few furry friends) and so I am very very soon and...
Read moreMy first thoughts on arriving at a point 2 mins away from The Old Manali House were - why would someone make a property here and why would people, including me, book it?! The thoughts lasted for exactly 2 mins after I reached OMH. A sudden sense of calm took over me and I found myself amidst nature, blue skies, smiles and welcoming warmth. Thanks to our dear host, Mr. Raj, fondly called Raj Bhaiji.
OMH is a nicely done, simplistic, and clean 1 BHK set with all basic amenities you'd need. Located perfectly away from craziness of the roads or traffic, and with shops and parking only a few meters away. If you're looking for a peaceful vacation / staycation / workation without being too far away from Manali's popular cafes or market, this is your place. From springs to a very picturesque winters one can enjoy absolutely any season here and enjoy the amazing views. (See all pictures!)
People wise, I've never had a more awesome host than Raj (and his family & friends.). Though he doesn't stay on the property but is only a small walk away. During my stay, Raj ensured I faced almost no issues or if I did, it got resolved immediately.
Best part about my stay was experiencing Manali and Himachal in a very authentic way. Whether it was through local / home cooked food or the people, their stories or really just the vibe! I'd definitely recommend Old Manali House to my family, friends and the readers here.
@Raj - I'll be booking soon, this time to experience the beautiful...
Read moreThis was my first time to Himachal Pradesh. Since I travelled in the month of May, 'snow' was out of the picture all together. We arrived at Raju's cute little stay late night and could not see much of nature around us. The stay is a little home kind of setup with one bedroom along with a guestroom, kitchen and bathroom attached. The kitchen has basic groceries, kettle , drinking water and fridge. This stay is set aside the busy cozy Old Manali town and requires you to walk for 5 minutes from Manu Temple parking. On the way to the stay you have grocery stores to buy essentials. However, the climb towards Raju's stay is a bit steep and might be difficult for someone not used to hikes. All of this tiredness vanishes the next day when you open your bedroom curtains. I was awestruck waking to the view of snow peak mountains right outside my window. Both me and my sister couldn't ask for a more warm host than Raju at Old Manali (especially because my sister fell sick and we were well taken...
