Stayed at this property for one night during March 2021. Pros: 1)You can just sit and relax enjoying the view of Ashtamudi Lake. Will see houseboats and local boats roaming around the lake. 2) rooms are neat and clean. 3) the staff is friendly and helpful. 4) boating is available for an additional rate, if needed. Cons: 1)You can just sit and relax.. nothing else.. no TV, no games.. there is some lawn area with a few hammocks. 2) except tea, you have to wait for swiggy delivery boy to satisfy your appetite. 3) there is no parking space within property, you have to park outside, that too maximum 2-3 cars. 4) the path to the property is too narrow that you will think twice before driving out in the middle of the stay. 5) out of 6 rooms, only 2 are AC ones. Rs.2000 for non ac is not worth for this property. 6) if the occupancy is full, the lawn area will be too conjusted.

A guesthouse located 15 min by auto rickshaw from Kollam train station is perfect for a tranquil and lovely stay south of the backwaters. Great location by the Ashtamudi Lake, this place is a hidden gem. Attentive and friendly staff, including Prabhat Joseph the owner, can assist you in many ways, including providing opportunities to see the surrounding communities off the beaten path. The guesthouse seems to attract like-minded foreigners, with whom sharing travel anecdotes and tips, which adds to the experience. You will be sad to leave Villas Ashtamudi. Highly recommended.

A very friendly, homely place with a backpacker feel to it. Staff were helpful at organising rickshaw transport if you wanted and organised a lovely Munroe island tour for us. The rooms were comfortable, stayed in an AC room. Good view of the lake with hammocks to relax in. Whilst we were there we were lucky enough to see the religious festival from the lake. Downside is that food has to be ordered from outside and nearest good restaurants are only accessible by auto, but overall very good.

Ashtamudi Villas is truly the best place to stay in Kollam. I cannot write enough positive words about Joseph (the owner) & the staff, the rooms, food, and library. Joseph's hospitality is incomparable - he genuinely cares about guests' experiences and gives you individual attention to help improve your stay. He's happily available for questions and conversation and will recommend and even organize activities for you (such as the wonderful canoe rides through Munroe Island canals and attending festivals). His expertise in local events and logistics helps you maximize the use of your time in Kollam. Every recommendation he offered was fantastic, and he even drove us to some of the events as well. One night when lit up boats were passing the hotel on the lake for a festival, he hung lights and gave the guests sparklers and floating lanterns to celebrate as the boats passed. His staff (I unfortunately don't remember their names) also are very happy and always smiling, helpful, and kind.

The rooms at Ashtamudi are also wonderful - large windows for sunshine, strong fan, very clean, and spacious. I also like how the floor under the showers is lower than the rest of the bathroom floor to reduce the amount of water that fills the floor.

Also, the food was some of the best I've had as well. They cook south indian meals as well as simple food like toast, eggs, and fruit. I told Joseph I loved paratha, and they made me a huge stack of parathas to accompany my dinner. He also remembered I was vegetarian and kept that in mind during dinners. It was nice to eat with other guests at the table in the common area. Someone is always around to make coffee, give bottled water, etc.

Finally, the library at Ashtamudi is full of books about Kerala & Indian history, politics, wildlife, tourist attractions, and culture, so you can find plenty of literature to read while lounging on comfy hammocks, sitting at the table outside your room, or sitting in the common area.

My 4 night stay Ashtamudi Villas will remain one of my fondest travel memories. Thanks to Joseph and the Ashtamudi team, Kollam is now one if my favorite cities in Kerela, and I hope to visit it and Ashtamudi...

Let me start like this: if you have the chance to stay at Ashtamudi Villas during your time in Kollam - DO IT. At least, after my experience, I can only recommend that! I looovveed every minute there, and what the people from Ashtamudi Villas made me experience. I wish I could have stayed longer. In Detail: The cottage/room where I was staying was just lovely!! Clean pretty lots of space. The whole property is just a dream: beautiful garden, a calm piece of beautiful nature right next to the lake. And you can reach it easily f.e. by TucTuc. Then to the kind people of Ashtamudi Villas: Thank you so much again!!! You made it a fantastic time for me! The owner and all people there would help you with anything and made the greatest experiences in the surrounding of Kollam possible for me! Thank you! Nature and temples - I think Kollam and Ashtamudi Villas made me have the most wonderful experiences of my trip so far. Thank you for the coffee in the morning :D and the peace and happiness I was allowed to experience. I hope...

An Extraordinary and Suuppper Place to Relax in the Lap of nature and right on the Edge of Beautiful Ashtamudi Lake. Extremely Calm Atmosphere and very Nice and Cooperative Owner and Staff. Particularly Faisal was really helpful in all respects. Manager Sanal was also very nice. We stayed here only for one night but did not want to leave this place. We felt that we should have stayed here at least for 3-4 nights but need not go anywhere else except relaxing and feeling the nature at this place only. Little Humidity was there during daytime till 7- 8 pm but was manageable. The only Con is that All Villas are Non AC which is a bit uncomfortable. Still once you come here these all amenities are secondary. I give 10/10 to this place. But if somebody wants 5 star or 4 star facilities then this is not the right place for them. Breakfast was nice. We saw Live Plucking of Coconuts from the trees and had Live Fresh Coconut water. Again I would like to come here and recommend to my...
