I took lake view premium room (dates 27 and 28th of December 2018, one night stay, costs 19k after all the taxes and service charges). Room was spacious and had enough and more space even when you put extra bed. View from room was decent but not so great. Bathroom was pretty big with separation for toilet and shower room. There was a nice jacuzzi inside the bath room but there was no privacy for it rather it was in an open area even viewable from bed. If you are visiting with family and kids, you won't be comfortable to use it. When I booked the room it was mentioned that there was a private bar area inside the room as one of the facilities. That was actually the only difference from normal room other than the view. But unfortunately there was no such area inside the room and when I enquired about it they said, I need to order drinks and they will arrange it inside room 😀 No one was there to welcome us or even to guide us to parking lot. We had to find it ourselves. No one helped us to pick our baggages. All the staffs were busy handling a high profile wedding. None of the staffs even smiled at us except a watch man and one service boy. There was no private way from pool to our room other than the road at the front of the resort. The way passes through the lobby of auditorium (where marriages or other functions are arranged). During our stay at the resort there where two marriages (two days). Obliviously the lobby and so the way to our room was crowded with people (who came for function).  They were dressed up very well posing for photos. We were coming from pool in wet cloths. Seeing the crowd, I asked the reception about whether they have any other way to the rooms. But  they were hesitant to open other ways .. My family had to move to room in wet cloths through the wedding crowd which was very awkward :( Buffet dinner and breakfast were not worth the money you spend. The restaurant was named Keraleeyam, but the only kerala style dishes were beef coconut fry and fish curry. Being a star rated resort I was expecting prawns or crabs. You won't believe, there were no sausages or omelette for breakfast. 😀😀 Pool was not hygene. I got insect byte and itching from pool. Toilets and dressing room near pool had bad smell. In total our experience was not that great and I won't recommend it. It is definitely not worth the money you spent.

Visited Leela Raviz for the Diwali buffet. One of the best dining experiences ever. Every dish was a fine delicacy!! Unlike the usual buffets were some of the items taste bland, the Raviz buffet had every dish prepared to such perfection!! What I loved the most was the selection of salads - The raw mango sea-food salad took me for a roller coaster ride tickling every taste bud. The methi murgh chicken was so rich with the thick cream. The mutton dish was good, just a suggestion, could have prepared the mutton-stew option considering there was a live appam counter. The grilled fish was fair enough. Both starters - chicken and mutton were good! Soup was nice. And the chat counter added to the Diwali vibe! Coming to the desserts - the most disappointing part of the whole experience!!! I was so full that I could not eat the desserts :( This was one of the longest dessert spreads fortified with all the Diwali sweets. I regret devouring the main course without keeping space for the desserts! Among the few desserts I had, the Umali was top notch, the nutty chocolate cake was heaven and the eclair cookie delectable. Overall you can't ask for more for just 1.5K bucks! Oh by the way, there was classical performance and Diwali fireworks as well. Service: Restaurant manager Vyshak was proactive and helpful. Thanks a lot! Souveek was a wonderful attendant. His sense of duty is much appreciated - attending every customer warmly and keeping the table utmost tidy!! And the manager from Coorg (hope his name is Balgappa) made the trip memorable with a return gift for my lil one. Overall, I know it's an essay I wrote. But, they deserve it! Thank you!!

Nestled on the Ashtamudi lake the hotel is a gem! They got us to take a shikara boat to cross the lake and have a frantic entry to the hotel which was a simple but a great start to our stay fabulous stay at the hotel for 2 nights. Manik(front office manager) & Nikhil met us and greeted us on check in and made us comfortable with the room allocation while we had our lunch at the all day dinning restaurant. Since we had taken an all meals inclusive package we were really reluctant of the sight of the buffet but you will be surprised with the array or food diversity within the buffet along with local speciality dishes chef Arun and his team were belting out. You had a spread of Indian and pan Asian food while having some really succulent north India tandoori and simple home cooked vegetables as per our parents liking with perfectly crisp and warm Indian breads from the tandoor. The icing on the cake which made us feel we are at “A home away from home” were the F&B staff (Bijil , Ajesh & Ajmal while i do acknowledge I am missing a few names) who made all our meals more than just a meal experience as they are so warm and accommodating to our requests specially as we were travelling with our Parents and our 10yr old nephew with specific food needs. This experience has made me believe in the saying “A place is only as good as the people you know in it” as Leela Ashtamudi is made by its people for sure. As I am writing this feedback ahead of us checking out this afternoon with a sense of void we are looking forward for the 2 nights now at the Leela Kovalam hotel with high expectations cause of the Ashtamudi hospitality.

This is the worst resort/hotel I have ever visited in my life. This is supposed to be a 5 star "resort"!!! To all the tourists and travellers across the globe "please do not waste your time and money and spoil your holiday". We travelled to this so called resort on 23rd May expecting a great experience. We travelled all the way from Kochi to spend one night at this resort and visit Jatayu Park the next day. We reached here around 5.30 pm on 23rd. Checked in and then wanted to have a coffee. This 5 star resort doesn't have a coffee shop!!! We were sitting in the lounge next to the lobby and ordered for coffee, and what we got was just below standard coffee. We had plans to use the swimming pool, but unfortunately the staff out here says "pool will be closed from 7pm to 7 am" !!! We decided to go back to rooms. Around 8.30 we decide to have dinner and come down searching for the dining options. We were told that this 5 start has just one restaurant !!! Well, left with no options we decided to go to that restaurant, and the service staff out there tells us that the only option is to go for their buffet. We said that we need only a la carte and the service person was hard selling buffet to us saying that other orders will take around 45 minutes! We said, we will wait but please send it to our rooms and the reply was "room service will be at extra cost"!!! Upon checking with him about this poor service, he says "sorry , Leela group has taken over and this is how we operate"!!! Well...we decided to go for room service and ordered the simplest dishes possible. Food was served in the room by around 9.30 pm. And we decided to hit the bed early so that kids could use the pool early morning. Well...the 5 star food from this 5 star resort spoiled everything again! Around 12.30 am my niece started vomiting and it went on and on the whole night. We asked the reception for medical assistance and they were helpless, no first aid kit and no doctor on call service!!! The trauma continued till 4.50 am and finally we decided to take the child to the nearby hospital. We came down to the lobby and the front office staff did not even offer travel assistance to take the child to the hospital. We called for our tempo traveller and by then one of the drivers in the resort approached us and offered to help us with a car. It took a driver to show value of service than all other staff out there. We spent the whole morning at the hospital till around 9 am !!! Got back to the hostel absolutely tired and disappointed. Our whole was spoiled by this "5 star" resort and staff. We decided to return as soon as possible. Had breakfast and the we thought of speaking to the GM of the hotel to give him a feedback on our terrible experience. To our greatest surprise the GM gives us all kinds of excuses for the terrible experience we had!! He talks about fssai license and food safety and said that they will send the food for lab testing!! He says, we served the same food for 350 pax yesterday evening in a function they had !!! Well...great service and great response from the GM of the hotel. THIS IS A TERRIBLE PLACE...PLEASE DO NOT SPOIL YOUR HOLIDAY BY VISITING...

Best service, scenery, safety, comfort, and food in Kollam (Reason for reduced star at the bottom).

Story:

My 9 month old daughter and I are from the US and my wife is from Kollam. We visited because my Mother In-law was in the ICU at a nearby hospital.

I had to go right back to work when I got back home, so we needed to stay in the safest place and I know from a lot of previous experience that the Raviz is the safest hotel in Kollam.

We were worried that it would be hard to get food for my daughter who was exhausted from the travel, was throwing up on the airplane, and still doesn’t have teeth yet.

Thankfully there was a kitchen staff Member who knows me from previous stays and two Chefs (Chef Bapi and Chef Arun) who really went out of their way to to approach us and prepare food exactly as we request for our little one. They even boiled and blended the prunes that we brought from home. Not only that but we had a great time chatting and connecting with them as well.

There were also two Malayali Girls and One Malayali Boy at the front desk who were just amazing and took care of everything we needed. They were very humble, kind and compassionate. A lot of times I’ve experienced a really bad degree of arrogance from concierges, especially at the front desk, so these three were a real breath of fresh air!

Almost all the staff were amazingly humble compassionate and friendly:

Off the top of my head I remember Aprna, Subarna, Niss, Christopher, Mohamed Ali, but there were so many others from the front desk to the restaurant staff, to the house keeping staff that really made us feel happy and comfortable.

I love the Raviz because of the traditional architecture mixed with modern amenities and the scenery. I love that the staff is a mixture of people from different religions and states in India all working together. Above all I love the food! The buffet is honestly the best in Kollam!

*^One star reduced :

There was one male staff member from the restaurant who was a bit too touchy with my daughter. He smelt like cigarettes and was sneezing and coughing so we had to be a bit stern with him. He said something about the evil eye and how we should take care. After that he left us alone.

I’m used to this in kerala and probably he was just trying to treat us the way he would his own family, but it’s really annoying especially when I’m ,in general, constantly worried about my family’s health and safety.

There was another male staff member who kept trying to hold my daughter. He also was getting a bit too close to me. He was very friendly and smiley but it was annoying to have to keep moving away and put my hand up to stop him.

I don’t feel that either of these staff members had any Ill intention and I think they were just being friendly, but still my wife and I did not like it. We don’t like anyone trying to touch our daughter without our permission.

I honestly don’t want to reduce a star, I love this hotel, but I feel it’s important to bring attention to this issue...
