leaving beachaholic after a four days stay, felt like we were leaving family. aseem and sophie went out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. aseem is the manager of the homestay and sophie is a bright spirited traveller who has found her home here and is supporting aseem to make beachaholic the best it can be. the homestay has only four rooms so it is a quiet, peaceful place with two lovely lounge areas, one, the communal balcony, and one, the rooftop hang out area, to relax in and enjoy the gorgeous views of the beach and ocean. there is a communal kitchen where you can prepare your own meals if you like, or use the fridge. the kitchen is kept clean at all times and reminded me of the warmth of a country kitchen from back in my youth.. the floors are a gorgeous polished granite...or maybe marble...not sure, and the walls painted bright, cheerful colours. there is a lending library and everywhere on the walls are messages of love, peace and welcoming acceptance. aseem and sophie encourage guests to add art to the walls. the ambience here is bright, happy, loving and all-embracing. aseem and sophie are working hard to clean up the beach around this part of alleppey and have rallied local homestay and business owners to do their part. every morning sophie was out picking up garbage and detritus that had been left or washed up on the beach. we were served countless cups of coffee in the morning for a very small price and they made our son ginger tea when he was not feeling well. things you need to know so you do not complain to these lovely people: the beds are large, but quite hard. it took us a night or two to adjust. there is no air conditioning, (but there is a large ceiling fan) as stated in the booking form, so rooms can be warm at night. just take a cold shower before you go to bed! the rooms are simply equipped but give you what you need. aseem goes out of his way to provide you with what you need for an informative and comfortable stay. you can rent bikes to explore the neighborhoods and the neighborhood around the homestay is especially friendly and pretty. tuk tuks to alleppey town are easy to get and cost 100 rupees. aseem booked us an all day canoe ride where the five of us went in one large canoe. it was a most dreamy and humbling experience and we also were fed a lovely breakfast and lunch by a local family. unforgettable! after our two months of travel through asia are over, i am sure our time at the beachaholic will remain our favourite place to stay. we left a piece of our hearts with aseem and sophie at the beachaholic and took with us, a beautiful ocean of memories and their love. we are...
Read moreBeachaholic Homestay is exactly what you see in the pics; it's an experimental, tiny and clean homestay in a remote location surrounded by fishing family residences. The business is run by a puppy-loving and personable Aseem but his Goa/hippie themes struggle to hide the inadequate of the building and its location. ||||Alleppey beach and ocean stretch are disappointing when compared to others in Kerala and its no surprise that beachlovers tend not be in Alleppey; the telltale sign is how local auto drivers anticipate this and are eager to ferry visitors to other beaches away from Alleppey. The beach infromt of the homestay is of a lower standard to beach areas further south in Alleppey and is principally occupied by fishermen and their regalia. Aseem is to be commended for his efforts to keep the beach clean but these efforts have created hostility from the locals resulting in an understandable unfriendliness towards visitors. ||||The upside is that Alleppey town will be of interest to visitors wishing to view some of the architectural gems of the merchant classes built when Alleppey had its pier. The network of canals lined with colonial architecture is unique to Alleppey and is best seen in the early and late evening. Some of these architectural gems offer accommodation within their secret and charming courtyards. ||||I still believe Alleppey is worth a short visit, more for its charming fading built heritage and good restaurants, like Halais, and less for its beaches...
Read moreWe loved our stay here at Beachaholic and wished we could have stayed longer! It has such a good, chilled atmosphere and the beautiful location right by the beach is just the Cherry on top. But what really makes this place special is the host Aseem. He puts so much love into the homestay helps you in any way he can and makes so much effort to make you feel welcomed and at home.I had left my sunglasses when I left to the train and he came with his bike after the tuck tuck just to give them to me. That's the kind of person he is. I definitely recommend staying there and I personally would come back to Allepey just to stay at...
