Poovar Island Resort — Hotel in Kerala

Lemme start giving a detailed review The resort has 2 parking areas and you will get a Free jetty provided by resort from the parking area to the resort. The only wonderful part of the resort is the location.

Rooms: Rooms are pretty old-styled, and found many cockroaches and insects in the room. When called the receptionist, they have sent the pestcontrol to clear the same. However the rooms are worth max upto 1.5K. However they charge 6K per cottage, 8K per luxury and 10K per floating.

Food: The worst part is the food. I have opted for free breakfast buffet and the items were so repetitive and has no taste. In the nonveg, they hardly provide either salami or sausage. Apart from that they have the normal South Indian food which are not even worth. Their buffet for lunch is 1100rs + 18% tax and for dinner is 1300rs+18% tax. I tried their dinner buffet and trust me they are so overrated and overly priced. We don't have anyother option than their restaurant and they just keep high prices for normal food. Service: Service is kinda okay.

Pool: Pretty small and can hardly accomodate 10-15 at once.

Beach timings: The beach timings are the worst. They only give the free jetty from resort to beach only from 8AM-10AM and 3PM-5PM. Common guys, we travel all the way from other states to have a peaceful stay at the beach and if you restrict it with the timings, that worst part. I can understand if the tides are high but if the beach is normal, they need to allow people.

Activities: They have pretty few activities and we cannot pass the time using them. We can hardly do timepass for an hour or two.

Worstpart: I have travelled through travels and i have prebooked a cab from a private vendor. As soon as i went to the parking area to take my cab, the local taxi drivers haven't allowed my booked cab and they literally threatened and behaved very rudely. When i have called the receptionist for the help, the answer is "SORRY SIR WE CAN'T DO ANYTHING, AS THEY ARE LOCAL CAB DRIVERS". When asked they are threatening us and we we are the guests in your resort, the answer was "I KNOW SIR, BUT I CAN'T REALLY DO ANYTHING". That's how they care for the guests. Poovar Island Resort is a beautiful space located on the Kerala backwaters where you can kick back and relax. Courteous staff, spacious and luxurious rooms, delicious food, and a fantastic location can make for an amazing stay.

Access to the resort is by boat operated by the resort themselves. Once there you are greeted with friendly and helpful staff who guide you to your rooms. The resort itself is extremely spacious, well laid out, and has fun activities for the kids (albeit at extra cost).

When we got there, it was overcast with chances of rain. But being intent on making the most of our stay we decided to head to the beach. That's when the staff advised us that though we could go to the beach, we wouldn't be able to access the water. As it turns out the "Golden beach" that is so well advertised on their website faces very rough seas and hence getting into the water is a strict "No"!! Our only thought at that time was: "Who advertises a beach where water is inaccessible?!" That was extremely disappointing, and we felt almost let down.

Next, we discovered that the jacuzzi and hot water in our room were non-functional. The hotel maintenance staff spent about 30 minutes trying to get it to work and finally they decided to move us to a different room. By then we had already lost a lot of time. The hotel management tried their best to make up for our experience by arranging specially made tea, and special dishes at dinner.

And to make it worse, I fell ill that night! Again, the staff marshalled all they could to try and make us as comfortable as possible. They provided medicines they had available and offered to take me to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

Long story short — it was a bad stay. But I wouldn't blame the resort for all of it. We had come with expectations of being able to enjoy the beach which wasn't to be, and then experienced maintenance issues, as well as a medical emergency. The staff supported us through out as best as they could. But in the end, we had spent a whole lot of money for an underwhelming experience.

Would I go there again? Not if I wanted to go to the beach. But if I was just looking to kick back and spend some relaxed time, and could afford it,...

I travel a lot along with my family but never write a review mainly because my stay is either good or at most average. But today I specially taken out time to make sure other people who are thinking to book this resort get familarized with the experience they are going to face. Some of the major ones are as below: I along with several other guest have to wait for 58 min before the boat picked us from Parking Area to Resort. Poor Management and no schedule of boats. We have to stay there in humid condition with nowhere you can go. If you cant handle number of guests why are you taking the bookings. There is extreme shortage of staff. There are only 2 people at the Reception and with 4-5 families arriving at the same time another 45 min wasted. The swimming pool staff is really rude and was literally misbehaving. The worst part is managing staff will be very sweet that they will do everything in the world to solve my problem but no one does nothing because they dont have the time and the apathy towards guest issues. Never ever faced such rudeness from a clerical staff in hospitality business. You have to take the dinner in resort as you cannot go anywhere else from the island. I have to wait for 1 hour 5 min to get my order on my table. And abother 40 min to get one additional Tandoori Roti. Reason they are heavily understaffed. Forget about the Room Service. I ordered one cup milk for my 2 year old daughter and it never came to my room. We were already so frustrated that my wife managed my some other stuff in our luggage. You are so dependent on these people since you are on an island. Hot Water is limited. You will get only 5 min of supply. Then you have to wait for 3 min then another 5 min and so on. Well I request you to make a wise decision. The resort is beautiful and big but what will I do if I don't get the comfort and service I want for my family.
