Hotel Kohinoor Square — Hotel in Maharashtra

Please do not be misled by the photos online (and on Make My Trip). We had booked to stay here for a night, after checking great reviews/pics here and on MMT website. The reality, was very different. Sad state of affairs and pathetic condition of hotel & rooms. Hotel Management used to be the erstwhile Kohinoor Group of Hotels, now is another management all together. Upkeep, hygiene and maintenance of the rooms is of the lowest standards(non existential). The buttons in the lift barely work. Parking at this hotel is an ordeal. Limited parking is available, and the column structures in the basement are so close together, it’s a tight squeeze. The watchman is clueless most of the time, and of little help. The rooms are in dire need of repairs. The first room we were offered (206, I think) had pink stains on the bed sheets and was so filthy. We requested to have our room changed instantly. We got room 202 which was equally bad (but luckily no major stains on the bed sheets.). AC was available but the flaps were broken. Major water seepage in the room, with plaster being peeled off. Curtain rods were broken. Mould and mouldy smell in every corner of the room. The regulator of the fan was faulty too. The faucets in the bathroom were leaky and leaked through the night and continued to leak as we checked out as well. The breakfast was decent. Please please save your money and health and book another hotel in the area. There are plenty of budget hotels in the area, which are of far superior quality, and in the same price range. Disappointing Stay at Hotel Kohinoor Square, Kolhapur: Dirty Rooms and Parking Woes

My recent stay at Hotel Kohinoor Square in Kolhapur was, unfortunately, a major disappointment. From the outset, issues plagued my experience, leading to a rating of a mere 2 stars.

Parking Nightmare: The nightmare began even before entering the hotel. Parking was an absolute mess, with limited and poorly organized spaces leading to confusion and frustration. Navigating this chaos set a negative tone for the entire stay.

Uncleanliness Issues: The problems continued right into the room. The first room assigned to me had an unclean bathroom, which was simply unacceptable. While the staff did arrange for a room change, the replacement room also fell short of hygiene standards. Dirty linens and bedding added to the disappointment, making it clear that cleanliness wasn't a top priority at the hotel.

Overall Ambiance: The general ambiance of the hotel further contributed to the negative impression. While the description might paint a picture of an opulent stay, the reality was far from it. The lack of proper upkeep and maintenance was evident in various aspects, leaving a feeling of neglect and disappointment.

Recommendation: Unfortunately, based on my experience, I cannot recommend Hotel Kohinoor Square to anyone. The combination of uncleanliness, parking woes, and an overall underwhelming ambiance makes it a regrettable choice for a stay in Kolhapur. To begin with the property is large and decor is old school, which means the rooms/ bathrooms/ lobbies are quite spacious. The downside to it is that if you DO not maintain these large spaces they tend to emit a very negative, unhygienic and shabby look which is what has happened in this hotel. The obvious reason for this lack of Basics stems from the fact that the Owner is not interested in maintaining the property and has decided to run this with skeletal staff. Everyone at the hotel does at least 4 different roles, the Watchman becomes the server in the shabby unclean restaurant, the bellboy is also the housekeeping person....you would be surprised but i even saw the Manager scrubbing the tiles of our room when he was granting it to us. It was a pitiful sight, but full marks to the entire staff which went way beyond their call of duties to run an otherwise squeaking machine which seemed to die every passing moment. The breakfast spread with limited to 4/5 items with a different menu every day, but the ingredients prepared to make the food were darn right Cheap. So pl avoid the Breakfast. So to conclude go to this hotel only if you have no other choices or if you plainly want to support this humble staff more of our generosity than expecting decent...
