Hotel Lawrence Amritsar — Hotel in Punjab

The 4 of us (school buddies, all seniors) landed at the hotel pretty late at night, like close to 11.30 pm. Check in was smooth and without any glitches. But what impressed me was the service of the bell boys and their courteous demeanor despite the late hour. The rooms were nothing great to speak about, except for it's massive size. Cleanliness of the room was really abysmal.... Being entirely carpeted, it was very visible that cleaning only happened in those parts that were visible to the eye. But if one has a keen eye and looked under the table, it was very evident that no vacuum cleaner had ever been stretched tothat extent. The bathrooms didn't even have a basic dental kit and the towels and napkins given could've really done with some bleaching agent, deodorants and good quality liquid detergents. Not sure if the hotel had a restaurant or not because we were told to place our order for breakfast and that it would be delivered to our rooms. So while in Amritsar, do as the Amritsaris do.... Order for poori/paratha with aloo bhaji or chole... Exactly what we did and of course we had no complaints about the breakfast. ||Sometimes i wish these wannabe hotels gave a little more heart to their business rather than just using their brains. I have a feeling that the hotel is very secure in the knowledge that their location and their excellent bell boys and their service is enough to get them the requisite business. In a nutshell I'd say pay a little more and go to a hotel that leaves you feeling well looked after and cared for. Please do not go by the pictures displayed on...

Positives:||Super Deluxe double rooms are really spacious. Dining table & chairs are available in the room. Additional 5 seat sofa-set is also available.||Room is equipped with central AC & ceiling fan. It has enough 3-pin sockets for mobile charging.||Location is suitable for me as I wanted to stay little away from congested shopping markets area of Golden Temple.||Receptionists were helpful. They helped me with car booking for local tours. They have quickly arranged our early morning drop at Amritsar railway station at wee hours (4:00 AM) as my personally booked car driver didn't report on time. I consider that as a great help from the property.||We enjoyed the Indian variety local breakfast every day. Even they have prepared breakfast for our early morning check-out as well.||The hotel lift is always having an operator, who is helping with the luggage as well.||Good varieties of restaurants / food stores / local sweet shops are located near-by.||Indian regional channels are available in Set-top box / TV connection.||||Problems:||This hotel property is old. The rooms need better cleanliness. One day during our stay, room house-keeping was done very late (after 5 PM) due to non-availability of house-keeping staff.||Restaurant is having a bar, which is not suitable for a family dining due to uncomfortable smell & atmosphere. I visited the place yesterday at one of the banquet halls for a function. The catering was the poorest of all i have experienced. No proper service of the snacks having repeated service of only two snacks whereas the person called captain of the serving team told there is total arrangement of six snacks. It appears as they were passing time so they may not have to serve the snacks and save at the cost of the customer. When asked the respective person he said go get them yourself from th trolley. If i have to get the snacks from the trolley myself then for what purpose he is getting his salary. When i went to get snacks from trolley, it was also empty which was stationed at one place only in the hall. The snacks had finished just after the finishing of the function. The serving at the time of dinner was also clumsy and service line was seen broken many a times for replenishment of food items in the serving bowls.
