If you're in Amritsar and craving authentic Punjabi breakfast, Kanha Sweets is a must-visit for their delicious Puri Chana. This classic combo is a staple in Punjabi cuisine, and Kanha Sweets does it justice with their flavorful preparation.
Taste & Quality The puris are perfectly puffed, golden, and crispy, yet light enough that you can enjoy multiple without feeling overly heavy. The chana (chickpea curry) is the star—rich, mildly spiced, and cooked to perfection with a balanced blend of onions, tomatoes, and aromatic spices. The gravy has just the right consistency—neither too thick nor too watery—making it ideal for dipping the puris.
Serving & Portion The portion size is generous, ensuring you leave satisfied. It’s typically served with a side of tangy pickle and fresh onions, which add a nice crunch and contrast to the dish. Some days, they also include a sweet boondi ladoo or jalebi as a complimentary treat, which is a delightful touch.
Hygiene & Ambience Kanha Sweets maintains decent hygiene standards, and the staff is quick and efficient. The place is usually bustling, especially in the mornings, which speaks to its popularity among locals.
Price The pricing is reasonable for the quality and quantity offered, making it a great value-for-money breakfast or...

Read moreKanha Sweets was our brunch spot, if I may. With lots of people, lots of kids, we started the day pretty late. Add to that stopping to buy shoes for the child because his big toe was pushing the shoe walls a bit much and it was high time to get his shoe sized up.
Once we got there, it was a quick meal. The breakfast platter, I’m not sure if it’s their all day platter as well, came with chole and aalu ki sabzi. One bite of it with fried pooris and I realized it was more like aalu ki launji – sweet and sour dish, usually done with raw mangoes, but the taste was on point. It’s the nigella seeds that bring out that peculiar flavour.
The star of this meal is more the pooris, fried to perfection in ghee. Pair that with the chole and this aalu ki launji, and you won’t stop eating. At least I had a tough time stopping, but again, that’s not news! :p
And while this was a complete meal for me, because we were a group of eaters, we did order a few mango lassis to go with it.
