SUMI SHANGRILA DEORALI GANGTOK — Hotel in Sikkim

I recently stayed at SUMI SHANGRILA DEORALI GANGTOK with my family for three nights. While the hotel is conveniently located on Deorali road, there were several issues that greatly affected our experience.

Firstly, the parking area was quite small and could only accommodate two cars at a time, which was inconvenient for guests with vehicles.

Although the staff members were humble and welcoming, our room had some significant problems. We had booked a premium room with a rolling bed, and upon arrival, it appeared clean and well-maintained. However, the moment we opened the bathroom door, a strong odor of drainage overwhelmed us. We promptly informed the front desk, and a room service staff member was sent to address the issue. They temporarily masked the smell with room freshener and bathroom cleaning solution, but the problem persisted. It made sleeping in the room extremely difficult due to the obnoxious smell. Despite our complaints, the manager failed to address the root cause of the problem.

Additionally, we discovered that the bathroom pot was leaking from the bottom, resulting in dirty water coming out whenever we used the flush. This was another issue we had to bring to the hotel's attention.

Furthermore, the rolling bed provided to us was saggy and would break down unexpectedly. I even fell twice due to the bed's instability. Moreover, the lack of air conditioning in the room was a letdown. Instead, there was a small, noisy rotating fan attached to the ceiling that made it even more challenging to sleep at night.

These problems began our vacation on a terrible note, completely spoiling our mood. The next morning, we were advised to leave our keys at the reception so that the issues could be fixed while we were out sightseeing. However, upon returning in the evening, we were disappointed to find that the problems persisted. Despite contacting the front desk multiple times, the management's approach remained superficial, with room service staff only spraying room freshener instead of properly investigating the issues. Our attempts to escalate the matter to higher management were thwarted as there was no contact number available for official complaints. The unprofessional attitude displayed by the staff onsite was highly disappointing.

Despite our concerns about the strong smell and its impact on our health, the hotel refused to relocate us to a different room or provide an alternative accommodation. We persisted in contacting the corporate office and the agent who handled our booking, but no satisfactory resolution was reached. We were forced to endure the unpleasant smell for two nights, which made it impossible to utilize the bathroom facilities.

Finally, on the third night, the hotel moved us to a bigger family room in an attempt to rectify the situation. However, upon check-out, when we requested a refund for the first two nights or some form of compensation for the troubles we faced, the manager refused. They argued that the last-night upgrade should be considered an adjustment, even though we had initially requested a clean regular room, which they failed to provide.

Despite these numerous issues, it is important to acknowledge some positive aspects of the hotel. The service staff were humble and prompt in fulfilling our requests, and the kitchen/restaurant staff were polite and welcoming. The breakfast buffet stood out, offering multiple options, including traditional Indian breakfast dishes. The quality and hygiene of the breakfast buffet were commendable, serving as the only highlight of our experience and warranting a two-star rating.

In conclusion, I am highly disappointed with the management of SUMI SHANGRILA DEORALI GANGTOK. I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone and will not choose to stay here again. The numerous issues we faced, coupled with the lack of proper resolution and compensation, greatly overshadowed...

Shangrila Suits & Spa by Sumi Yashshree Location- The Hotel is located in Deorali market, which in 5/10 mins drive from main Lal Bazaar / MG Road. Shared taxis are easily accessible from the hotel.

Rooms & service- Hotel is 6 story building with lift facility available. Staff manages your luggage and sends to your rooms. Front side rooms have road view where as backside ones have valley view which is awesome. Just open the window and you can enjoy beautiful cloudy valley from bed. Rooms have sufficient space but not to specious. Delux rooms have too little space to move that is compensated by valley view from window. Delux rooms don't have full size mirrors that one this is to note. Good quality of sanitary fittings are there in bathrooms. Rooms are equipped with kettle, quality bath & tea kits. Receptionist personal are co operative, quick and responsive.

Food They provide numerous items in each meals. Quality and taste was also pretty good. You can choose MAP/AP plan as you prefer. Otherwise alternative food options are within walking range. Restaurant staffs Nikita, Sneha & Evan are nice and gentle to all guests. They can also arrange food as per your specific advanced requirements if you follow pure vegetarian or Jainism.

On the first night, our group came late and they said they can serve dinner in the room since the dining hall is closed. However, they refused to place even a small table in the room. A lot of convincing was taken to arrange a table. The bathtubs were cracked. Some cracks were cealed with cement but the work was untidily done. The other cracks were covered with algae. The shower didn't work sometimes and other times it leaked. The soap, shampoo, and shower gel dispensers delivered only a small quantity of substance per push. The same breakfast was served everyday. The waiters forget to bring water. I ask them for water then someone else asks for another thing, the latter gets their desire fulfilled and mine is forgotten even though it is customary to serve water as soon as the guest arrives. The waiter sees my clenched hands and then remembers and serves me the water without even a sorry. The taps are too strong. As soon as you turn it on to wash your hands it's too strong and your tee gets wet. Additionally, if you decrease the pressure it's too less and it becomes difficult...
