Chettinadu Court and Chettinadu Mansion both belong to Same management located at about a kilometer away. We had booked at Chettinadu Court. But for the guests both properties are accessible.
Chettinadu Court facility has nothing but a simple accommodation. For anything including Breakfast, Lunch or dinner we need to walk down to Chettinad Mansion. Also for any food requirement we need to book much ahead, otherwise we will not get. We had ordered for a Combo lunch which costs ₹400/plate. We got a bowl of rice, Sambar and one dry vegetable (Poriyal), one gravy vegetable (Koottu) and a Papad. No Rasam, no Curd, no Buttermilk. It was disappointing to see its not a full meal. If we expect a thorough Chettinad cuisine in the lunch, this is not the place. There are no good hotels in and around 10km distance and hence we have no option but to book the decent food here for whole day.
There are no Parking in the property( Both at Chettinad Mansion and Chettinad Court). We have to depend on the road side parking.
Chettinadu Court has good rooms, with a small lawn. The architecture is no way connected to Chettinad. Its a simple room of oldendays. For a City location like Kanadukathan, for this price we can expect much more. Thus its a disappointment.
On the roof there are small huts and the service utilities are mounted. Unfortunately when we visited there were rain on previous days. I could see a heavy two feet deep water stagnation on the roof.
On the Contrary The Chettinad mansion is a good place to stay, in the typical chettinad architecture. The typical guest room of Chttinadu families are allotted to the guests on the first floor. The Chettinadu Mansion is a typical Chettinad house layout with Mutram, Thinnai, Irandam kattu, Moondram kattu, Kithcen etc. If we are staying here in Chettinadu mansion, you need not have to visit any Chettinadu house or place with a ticket of ₹50/head. This mansion itself is a good palace by itself.
Chettinadu Mansion also has a museum with typical collection of olden day articles on display. Also there is a video show explaining the history of the Chettinad King.
Breakfast was good with a combination of few chettinad items and few continental and south indian menu. Its a fixed menu and no possibilities to alter or modify even slightest way.
Location wise it Kanadukathan itself is a small village with many Chettinadu houses, Chettinad Palace and close to Athangudi and other tourist places of...
Read moreA modern addition from Chettinadu Mansion.
Location: About half hour away from Karaikudi proper, so we appreciated the calm and quiet. Good for those on a driving holiday since it’s a central location with loads of places to visit in a 15 km radius. The Chettinadu Mansion is a short walk away, and all meals are served there (you do get coffee/tea for room service though).
Design and rooms: Loved the heritage look and feel, and it didn’t stick out like a sore thumb in the village surrounding. Since it’s a new property, was cost effective at Rs 4500 (all inclusive) a night. We got a superior room which was in the first floor. Huge room and very spacious and clean bathroom.
The pleasant gardens, ducks waddling around, and pet rabbits made this a charming stay. Garden front rooms are also available. Recommended for a...
Read moreLocation .. we were a big group of 20. We got a nice lawn all to ourselves. Had fun. Swimming pool is in seperate location 5 mins walk from court. They say it's combo with NV curries .. what will vegetarians do. ? Coffee not before 7 am and after 9 am. Over all a good stay .. definitely should increase manpower and...
