A beautiful Mansion and lovely stay.
We were to stay two nights. They allotted AC Muthaiah's ancestral home to us for the first night of our stay. This room has a huge foyer when you enter - the bedroom to your left and the bathroom to your right. The whole bungalow and frontage was to us and I had a good time playing cricket with my son (yes it's that spacious).
For the second night, they moved us inside the Mansion. This room again was spacious with separate luggage room, climb a few steps for the bathroom that also opens up to a large sit-out facing the village street.
Food - Lunch/Dinner: they have limited choices and you have to preorder so that they can prepare it afresh. Food is pretty expensive but quite tasty. I will come to what they could improve on, later.
Breakfast: they excel here with Chettinad specialities. Outstanding is the word. They also explain each dish as they serve.
They have a swimming pool two streets away and my son & I had a good time riding cycle to the pool. Our time was limited in the pool but we thoroughly enjoyed it.
The staff were very friendly and courteous. Don't forget to tip the entire staff using the common tip box in their office.
Why 4 stars? What could they improve?
At the outset, their food service - both during dinner and breakfast, they should dedicate one staff per table. With very limited quests and dedicated table for each guest they could easily achieve this. Things have to be repeatedly asked during Breakfast. Having a dedicated person would take care of this.
Similar feedback on Dinner. Food was served in no particular order - the main course came first and snacks (had ordered cutlet) came later.
The rooms in the Mansion are inter-connected. While this should help extended families and that, am sure, was the intention as families stayed together in yesteryears - was a bit of inconvenience as we could hear the other room (and vice versa).
Gopakumar, Manager, needs mention here. He took care of us well and helped us with our itinerary. Thank you, Gopakumar.
Overall, I would recommend The Chettinad Mansion to anyone for an experience of living like a King...
Read moreYes, it has an old world charm and it was an amazing place to stay. So the mansion is beautiful, clean, well-maintained and instagrammable. The rooms are beautiful and the washroons are huge. So there is an electricty issue but you won't face any such problem as in our 2 days stay, every morning we faced the issue but just once for hardly 5 mins. Coming to the food. It tasted great but they do not have a huge spread. Also, one thing that bothered me was that they intially said they dnt like wastage so they ask their guests if they are available for lunch and dinner and accordingly cook which is fair enough but while serving items like chicken and all they will serve you just one. So every time u will have to ask them while items like sambhar and all they pour in. Also for lunch you will have to inform them by 10 and for dinner you will need to tell them by 5. Good thing that when we reached at 2 obviously we did not know about this rule but still the Manager asked us for an hour and arranged rice and chicken for our lunch, which tasted great and especially their welcome drink which was made of lemon, sugar and tamarind. Guys we booked through Agora and it seems agora does not share your number with them so they had a problem contacting us hence our lunch was not prepared initially. There are a lot of things you can see around but we preffered going to...
