The family that own the homestay are absolutely lovely! So kind and welcoming.
Sadly though, I couldn’t understand the overwhelmingly positive reviews.
I understand that you’re in a jungle location, but the amount of bugs and mosquitoes in our room was too much! The trouble is, the doors and ceiling have so many gaps for the critters to get in. We also had a very large gecko in the room with us. Again, the family were so helpful, but it just doesn’t make for a very relaxing stay! There was a mosquito net, but this was very torn and dirty. The whole room was also just not very clean. There was a duvet, but this had no cover on it? So I’m not sure if the whole duvet is being being cleaned after each guest? We found 2 plug sockets in the room but the one near the bed wouldn’t work so we had to share the one that the fan was also plugged into (no air con!). We also ordered some food from them. It was very much undercooked and I didn’t eat it. It is nice to be in nature, but I do feel like maybe they’re letting it take over a bit! The pool water was very murky and again, the whole pool area was not very clean.
Be aware that there is no Grab/Gojek/Bluebird in the Sidemen area. They can drop off but aren’t allowed to pick up. Not their fault, but worth noting as it’s very difficult to arrange local taxi drivers for short journeys around Sidemen.
Such a shame as the family are so lovely and clearly take pride in what they do! But for me that just couldn’t make up for all...
Read moreKrishna homestay is a delightful, picturesque, and spiritual place to stay in Sidemen. It is owned and run by a beautiful Balinese family - Mum, Dad, 4 children, and 1 cute puppy. the family are very warm-hearted and interesting, funny and helpful. ||I arrived early and was gifted a welcome drink of very yummy passionfruit juice. The passionfruits, along with many other fruits, are grown organically in their garden. Then I received a guided tour of the property before heading out for a short walk. When I returned they had kindly put all of my luggage in the room for me.||The room was built in the traditional Balinese style with a thatched roof, a wide balcony overlooking the tropical gardens and a beautiful outdoor bathroom with a toilet, shower, and bath. ||In the gardens, there are many sorts of plants, herbs, fruits, palms, ferns, and coconuts growing. The pool is big and nice and cool for a refreshing swim. Breakfast is included and it is delicious - you get one hot drink, one hot dish, and a choice between fruit salad and fruit juice. There is also an extensive menu you can order from at any time and they can bring the food to your room or to the restaurant.||The highlights of my stay were the lovely family, the fireworks for New Year's Eve, and a motorcycle tour of the local area where many traditions, culture, customs, and history were taught to me.||Thank you very much and Happy New...
Read moreStayed 2 days, chose this homestay after looking at several other places nearby. Paid 250,000 IDR bed and breakfast. Nice garden setting and a lovely swimming pool to cool off after long walks in the beautiful countryside. My room was a simple bungalow with a little terrace. Attached bathroom with hot water shower. Bed firm with mosquito net. A small fan but note it gets very cool at night and I had to request another blanket. It was comfortable enough for me.||Breakfast was the usual eggs or banana pancakes and fruit. Nothing to rave about and I did not eat any other meals here.||There are more upmarket places to stay and tourist restaurants about 15 minutes walking but I found these to be quite expensive. Few local warungs. There is a daily market up on the main road to buy fruit and snacks.||The only downside to staying here is that there are no views of Gunung Agung volcano. I was given a rough map and did a 3 hour walk through paddy field and villages and got glimpses of the volcano in the clouds. It usually cleared late afternoon to get best views.||Sidemen is peaceful and scenic but becoming more popular as mostly French and Dutch tourists do a loop from Amed to Sidemen and onto Ubud. Getting there is difficult without paying a lot for private taxi or having own transport. I gave up waiting for the morning bemo to Klungklung and managed to hitch a lift to get out.||Can recommend...
