Incredible place! I spent there 5 days with my wife for honeymoon...I don't have enough words to describe how much I enjoyed staying at the Penida Sunset, but I will try to give some details.

Why you should book your stay here: #1: Gary!! The manager of the place is just the most generous host I have ever met. Incredibly helpful, he will go above and beyond to help you have the best time on the island. Do you want to book a snorkeling tour? rent a scooter? go eat grilled fish? need a drive? ASK GARY!

#2: Sunset The location is simply gorgeous, everything you see has been made within the family: the bungalows have been built by Gary's dad, together they maintain the most beautiful garden with a nice infinity pool that has a view DIRECTLY on Chrystal Bay and the ridiculously perfect sunset! It's just so idillic, you don't want to miss that.

#3: Nasi Goreng & breakfast Gary's wife prepare the best Nasi Goreng I had in Bali (it will be served mild unless you ask for spicy), and trust me, you will eat a lot of it in Bali! In general the food options, although limited are delicious and breakfast is just very generous: big portions, colourful fresh fruit smoothies and juices, vegetarian and vegan as well.

Conclusions: best place we could choose for a honeymoon, Gary gave us complimentary floating breakfast at the pool and young coconut juice from the garden. He arranged a great scooter rental service that took the time to teach me a few tricks to ride on the island and stay safe. He was just the nicest guy, he won't try to overcharge you and he will always choose services with fair price that you can only have through the help of a local (we went for manta-ray snorkeling and paid half of what other people who booked directly at the harbour paid).

Some notes for the stay: the last 200m to get there are a bit difficult, but that will be the case with most accommodations on Nusa Penida. Nature can be loud at night, so you might want to bring...

I really want you guys to discover this place as it is a gem! We stayed 2 nights there and I highly recommend||||1) It is located not far from Crystal Beach, which is super convenient||||2) It is in the middle of the forest so you will not hear any noise other than nature (birds, geckos, insects) ||||3) It is on a hill with a direct sea view and you have exceptional sunset moments by the pool (look at the picture)||||4) The garden is beautiful, the bungalows are beautiful, the infinity pool is new and wonderful||||5) Gary is the best host I have met. Super kind and caring with its guests. We loooved the banana pancakes cooked for breakfirst as well as the fresh juices. Very helpful also for all transportation arrangements.||||6) It is a family-run business, the land belongs to their family and Gary is doing his best to turn it into a top eco hotel. He is everyday trying to make this place better (construction of an infinity pool, he also wants to add a terrace with a view). So it is always a pleasure to go and support places like this one||||7) Warning: to fully appreciate this place, you must not be scared of nature and be a bit used to it. It is a natural place so you will encounter geckos, ants, spiders, mosquitos… You also sleep in bungalows so you will hear insects and geckos at night and maybe encounter a few but you have a mosquito net on the bed so no problem. I come from the city and I survived and enjoyed so anyone can I guess haha ||||That’s it, again thank you for the stay Gary and I wish...

We had a lovely time at Penida Sunset Ocean View. The rooms are comfortable, the pool is warm, food is delicious and the staff are brilliant. Gary, the manager is really friendly and welcoming, he’s happy to give advice and answer all your questions.

One thing we didn’t realise about Nusa Penida is that it can be quite hard to get around (and expensive!) unlike mainland Bali, the hotel will give you the best rates on a driver or scooter. We paid 450k IDR for a private taxi trip which Gary only charged 250k for - he said they will always be better and if not match prices which is really the service you need as a lot of private drivers will rip you off.

We rented a scooter from the hotel, it was handy and a nice way to experience the island but I would only recommend if you are experienced as the roads can be dangerous. Gary warned us and made sure we were comfortable before.

For sunset, we got a free shuttle bus to Amok sunset which was amazing, the food was average but the views were unbeatable. This was also recommended to us by Gary. You need to book (via WhatsApp or social media) the day before and would recommend going at least an hour before sunset to view the whole thing.

I noticed some other reviews mentioned lots of bugs and “wildlife”, we didn’t experience this, our stay was comfortable and the room had a mosquito net so I wasn’t bitten.

Overall, service and location were 10/10 we’d stay again if we come back...

I had very pleasant stay here in December 2023. Penida sunset has very nice gardenlike yard and as the name promises, stunning sunsets over the valley you can watch from the pool. Spacey bungalows, very serene and tranquill atmosphere overall and nice pool. Pretty basic restaurant, very friendly staff. Reminder for those who don't like critters: hotel is surrounded by forest and there can all kinds of interesting wildlife like birds, bats, monkeys and all kind of insects roaming around 😉 (I loved them, not all people do). Superior service I must say! During my stay I accidentally dropped my pocket knife (which is not super valuable but has great sentimental value to me!) and it was deemed lost. Although they helped me to search it by contacting other local places I had visited it was nowhere to be found. Only after we already had left Nusa Penida for Amed (in main island), they send us a message that now my lost property had been found! They even went an extra mile to arrange a return so that I could pick my stuff from a port in Sanur when I was leaving for airport. I am so thankful so if you read this, thank you! 🙏
