TL;DR: If you’re looking for a stay that combines immersive nature with unparalleled luxury, Capella Ubud is a destination you’ll never forget. From stunning tented accommodations to service that goes above and beyond, it’s a unique escape that is worth every penny. Special thanks to Dewa, the Executive Manager and the exceptional staff who made our stay unforgettable.||Now, onto the detailed review.||ARRIVAL & FIRST IMPRESSIONS|Nestled deep within the verdant jungles of Ubud, Capella Ubud feels like a hidden sanctuary from the moment you arrive. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a traditional Balinese water blessing ritual. This small but meaningful gesture instantly immersed us in the local culture and made us feel welcome.||Check-in was seamless, conducted in the open-air lounge while we sipped on a refreshing welcome drink. A member of the staff took us on a quick tour, giving us an overview of the resort’s layout and its story. Be prepared for a lot of stairs, as the resort is built into a hillside, but every step is worth it for the incredible views and privacy.|||ACCOMMODATIONS|Capella Ubud’s tented accommodations redefine the concept of glamping. We stayed in two different tent types over our three-night stay: the Keliki Valley Tent and The Lodge. Each had its unique charm, but both shared a perfect blend of comfort, luxury, and an authentic connection to nature.||The Lodge: A two-bedroom tent. For those traveling as a family or group, this is an excellent choice. Spacious and equipped with its own large pool, it balances privacy with communal areas for relaxation. It was here that we truly felt like royalty. The tent is very close to the main facilities, and also is the only tent that doesn't have a 'bridge' to access the tent. If you do get the chance to stay at the Lodge, definitely request to open up the "window" in the master bedroom. It has an amazing view. ||Keliki Valley Tent: Keliki Valley Tents are the most featured tents of the resort. They each have different views and locations. While we stayed at the Java and the Naturalist tents, if you can, we would recommend requesting the Photographer's Tent or the Horn Collector's Tent. Be aware that a lot of people do request these tents, and may not be easily available. |||DINING|Capella Ubud’s culinary offerings are as unforgettable as its accommodations. There are two main dining venues—Mads Lange and Api Jiwa—along with unique experiences like private dining in the jungle.||Mads Lange: This is the heart of the resort’s dining. Offering a mix of Balinese and international cuisine, every dish was beautifully presented and delicious. We particularly loved the nasi goreng for breakfast and the locally sourced seafood for dinner.||Api Jiwa: This was the highlight of our culinary journey. An interactive omakase experience where the chef creates a special course based on Japanese cuisine using local ingredients. The creativity of each dish and the flavors along with the service made this one of the best meals we've ever had. ||Afternoon Tea: Every day, Capella offers complimentary afternoon tea at The Officers Tent. The selection of teas, along with sweet and savory treats, was perfect for a mid-day break.||In-room Dining: We had a special In-Room BBQ Dining arranged. The decoration was beautiful and Madi Deno was an amazing host. ||Sate Dinner: This, in my opinion, is a must-do experience. You get to have dinner at a luxurious hut in the middle of the rice field. Not only is it picturesque, the food is amazing. We were lucky enough to have Wawan and Chef Benda host us for dinner. Chicken sate was the best. |||ACTIVITIES & EXPERIENCES|Capella Ubud offers a wide range of activities that cater to every interest, from cultural exploration to pure relaxation. Here are a few that stood out for us:||A walk to Wos River Temple: A must-do if you’re staying here. The River Temple is a bit of a hike, but it is beautiful We would definitely recommend a hike down to it. Pari was more than kind enough to assist us on the way down and back. ||Auriga Wellness Spa: Easily one of the best spa experiences we’ve had. I opted for the signature "Moon" treatment, which is inspired by the phases of the moon and incorporates a mix of techniques. Definitely recommended. ||70's Scenic Tour: This includes a trip to Tegallalang and Gunung Kawi Sebatu, and picnic at Tag Tag. Tegallalang, while touristy is definitely worth it. And picnic at Tag Tag was also quite scenic and beautiful. Puspa who was an amazing guide made the tour that much more special. |||FINAL THOUGHTS|Capella Ubud is not just a resort; it’s an experience. The seamless integration of luxury with nature, combined with the heartfelt service, makes it a standout destination. Whether you’re looking to disconnect and recharge or immerse yourself in Balinese culture, this is the place to do it.|||TIPS:|The layout is hilly and involves a lot of stairs. If mobility is a concern, request accommodations closer to the main areas.|||I’ve stayed in luxury resorts around the world, but Capella Ubud stands out as one of the most unique and memorable. Thank you to everyone who made our stay so special. We can’t...

Never have I stayed at a hotel that offered such a personalized, luxury service as when I stayed at Capella Ubud. We travelled as a couple for 5 nights in April 2025. |Firstly the grounds are a beautiful tropical rainforest, with each hut nestled in the trees. All beautifully landscaped of course. The architecture and art within each hut is unique but all cohesive. I really appreciated the designs and furnishings. It’s a dream. The rooms just work – spacious but not overly large, functional and beautiful. The king-sized beds (not so much the king pillows – too big for me!) were so comfortable. ||Speaking of the pillow, this is where the thoughtfulness and personalization came in. The breakfast staff asked how we slept – we thought they were making small talk – I guess they were but when we mentioned in passing that we didn’t like the king pillows they took it upon themselves to organize smaller pillows for us – but still asked us if that was OK and when to deliver them. This was the person serving breakfast, not some manager. The next day the breakfast staff member followed up and asked if we had slept better! It goes without saying that every staff member knew our names and they also knew what activities we had been up to. Not in a creepy way – I suspect they had morning briefings and sometimes they misremembered, but still – it made us feel special. ||It all started even before the trip. They reached out with a consultation email offering the “Capella curates” activities and other suggestions. Together we tailored a customized itinerary. During our conversations I mentioned that I wanted to buy carved wooden figurines, and they suggested hiring a car for a few hours. I did not take that suggestion BUT they still remembered. As we were returning from another paid excursion (Mt Batur sunrise) the guide brought up my shopping desire and suggested that we stop along the way at a few places she knew – all of this without me prompting it, from an email conversation a week prior and with no extra charge!! Amazing! They also organized us for a stop at waterfalls because we were chatting about it in the car. I also didn’t have any IDR on me but again no problem. They paid (and sure charged it to my room with a 5% loading but I didn’t mind). This extra service was not only that trip. On another excursion the driver and I were chatting about batik, and he suggested places to stop along the way. ||These examples are what made me feel so special during the stay. They really are there to make your time with them as memorable as can be. On the sunrise trip they took photos with our phones. They also took some with theirs “for documentation.” I didn’t think anything of it but when we got back to the room – a framed printed photo was there waiting for us. I was so happy. ||I had no complaints. None ||TLDR: An amazing, personalized luxury service in beautiful surrounds. We...

My friend and I organised a trip to Bali and we stayed at Ubud for two nights. This place is unique, secluded and exquisite. It's unlike any other resort with a massive sign to point at the direction. From the moment our driver entered resort driveway, we felt the great sense of privacy and seclusion. The whole place is like a village with the lobby, the restaurant and the gaming room as the centre and rest of the tents (aka your hotel rooms) scattered all over the property, with unique themes. We stayed at the Archiver's room. It's stunning and one-of-a-kind. The tent came with a private pool facing the jungle, and the outdoor shower is fantastic. I loved the bathroom design and all the facilities. Bed was so comfortable, and staff members were kind and helpful, and they remembered our names. The complimentary afternoon tea and cocktails were so great. The cocktails are above and beyond my expectations. If you are looking for gifts to bring back to your family and friends, I strongly recommend the coffee soap bar. My friend and I loved how it exfoliates and in the meantime not leaving dryness on the skin. The Indonesian food served at the restaurant is a must-try. I highly recommend the pork ribs and nasi goreng. What makes Capella so unique is that it provide you with the chance to immerse into the local community to engage and discover local heritage and culture, and meeting some fascinating people along the way. Overall, this place is one of a kind. During our stay, I heard other guests compared Capella at Ubud with Four Seasons in Chiang-Mai. I have stayed at both places, and the two have completely different vibes and ambience. Four seasons rooms are actually brick and wood constructions but the Capella rooms are actually " tents", with wood frames and a canopy as the roof. So we fell asleep both nights while listening to the raindrops on the canopy. It's so soothing and relaxing. Capella has offered the opportunity to enjoy a luxurious service and experience while embracing the wildness. Additional:Shout out to Dedy and staff members who offered such above and beyond services. After we left Capella instantly we regreted of not purchasing the coffee soap bars as souvenirs. When I called the Lobby, Dedy arranged to have them delivered all the way from Ubud to Jimbaran to our resort. It's not only my escape experience but also the fantastic people from Capella that left such a deep impression on me. It's definitely a 10/10 experience. I highly...

If you wish to experience the famous and unique Capella Ubud but it's above your budget or fully booked, then book a special re-treat for half a day with a treatment at the Auriga spa and a meal at the Mads Lounge restaurant. Ask to have a tour and a peak at one of the fabulous 'rooms'. We got to see the only two bedroom lodge called "The Lodge'' out of the 23 they have (designed by Bangkok- based American architect Bill Bensley). The spa treatment takes place in a tent but it's not far from your average tent. All tents are 19th century themed (designed to honour The Age of Exploration, a time when European explorers set out to conquer the seas), and no trees were harmed during their construction. In fact a jackfruit tree trunk grows through the tent and the treatment room is built around it. The treatment myself and my friend were booked in for is called the The New Moon Ritual, which takes two hours. The spa uses the Organic Pharmacy products which is a London based holistic retailer. They say that the new moon is the time for renewal and introspection and to meditate on who you are and would like to become, establish strategies to reach your higher potential and to set new intentions and bring harmony. The healing and body nourishing treatment begins with a foot massage, followed by a sea salt scrub & deeply stimulating body polish. The therapist then moves on to a full body massage using rosemary and eucalyptus oils. You can hear the soothing sounds of the rainforest which makes the connection to the surrounding nature really magical. Feeling super relaxed we then headed to Mads Lounge (named after a Danish explorer of the 19th century) for a delicious lunch around a huge wooden table. I was bedazzled by the ceiling’s impressive painting design. Whilst in Bali one must drink the Indonesian jamu tonics of course and I was pleasantly surprised to see a classic British vegan dish 'chilli sin carne' on the menu as it's one of my favourites.

Hi! My wife and I celebrated out first wedding anniversary at Capella Ubud. In short, it was an unforgettable experience which we both really enjoyed, and far exceeded our expectations. We really commend the culturist team to help us craft such a beautiful stay for us. From helping me to print our wedding photo as a welcome surprise to my wife, to organising the camp activities which we had much fun doing, and the daily tea/cocktails which was one of the highlights of the stay. We had dinner at api jiwa and while we could not secure the special night for the Ubud Food Festival (we had a prior reservation at room4dessert which could not be moved, sad), the omakase degustation was really a culinary experience in itself. We did not expect local ingredients to be used in such an innovative way, reminding me of japanese cuisine, italian cuisine. What a marvellous journey. Kudos to Chef Nicola! Of special mention was the fun run with the GM himself Mr Mark. It was clear to me he is an ultra fit probably sub-3hr marathoner but he brought us on a really relaxed run around the keliki village where we ran past local temples, kampongs and rice padis. Thank you very much for such a nice experience. The attention to detail to the various aspects of our stay was incredible. I particularly enjoyed the whole mid 19th century explorer vibe. I really felt like Allan Quartermain, sans hunting rifle. The thought put into the design of the tents to the services rendered is truly breathtaking and far exceeded all my expectations of the Capella experience. (We stayed at Capella Singapore several times for our pandemic proposal/solemnisation/wedding dinner). Special thanks to our culturist Fiona, drivers Mario and Yogi, GM Mark, Chef Nicola and therapist/dance instructor Agung! You guys made everything super special for us. In summary, our stay at Capella Ubud was way beyond our expectations and I cannot wait to return in the future. I highly recommend!

From the moment we stepped onto the property and heard the river whispering below, I knew Capella Ubud wasn’t going to be just another luxury hotel. This place is… different. It’s not about grand lobbies or marble hallways. It’s about being wrapped in the heartbeat of the jungle — cicadas humming, leaves rustling, the Ayung River breathing in the distance. Every path feels sacred, as if it’s leading you to some hidden secret. Our tent (though “tent” doesn’t quite do it justice) was a perfect blend of colonial charm and modern comfort — polished hardwood floors, antique trunks, a private saltwater pool framed by thick greenery. Waking up here feels like opening your eyes inside a dream. And then there’s Api Jiwa, Capella’s chef-led omakase dining. No printed menu, no predictability — just trust. Each course arrived like a chapter in a story, from silky tuna tartare to buttery Hokkaido scallop, ending with matcha and ginger that felt like a soft goodbye kiss. It’s not just dinner. It’s performance art with fire, soul, and a little drama. What stood out most wasn’t the tent or the food (though both were flawless) — it was the people. The staff seemed to anticipate needs I didn’t even realise I had. They remembered our names, shared stories about Balinese traditions, and made us feel less like guests and more like old friends returning home. Capella Ubud isn’t for someone who just wants to “tick off” Bali. It’s for travellers who want to slow down, listen, and let the jungle speak to them. We left with lighter hearts, fuller memories, and a deep sense that this wasn’t just a stay… it was an experience that will linger for years. Tip: If you can, book the Api Jiwa dinner early in your stay — it sets the tone for the whole experience. And don’t rush. Capella is best savoured slowly.
