I've been to various quest hotels both in Java and Bali, and I can say that this is the best quest hotel I've been to.
The hotel, even though a bit old (the few botches on the room walls and the bathroom mirror would tell), is very pleasant and considerably look stylish enough. The double bed is quite large, can accommodate 3 people quite comfortably. The AC and the refrigerator are fully functional. Wifi is not the fastest, but enough to work and play. Amenities are okay. My complaints are the hanger where you put clothes is a bit awkwardly placed behind a glass pane so you have to reach from the side, as well as the very slippery wooden flooring which does not go well with the standard hotel slippers. But on average, the room is spacious and very comfortable.
Breakfast has a variety of choices, which is the only great part about it, most of them are catered to Indonesian tongue. The side dishes like Gudeg, Sop Ayam, and Porridge are okay, but the main dish is not up to par. As I'm writing this review, the hotel is serving Hongkong fried rice, sweet and sour fish, vegetables cooked ala ratatouille, baked beans, and wedge potatoes—individually they lack of flavor and on one plate, they look monotonous (from lack of color variation) and unappetizing. Nevertheless, service are top notch. The staff are very helpful and friendly, especially one particular staff named Vanessa.
One great thing about the hotel is how it ia conveniently located in the heart of the city. The main road and the main attraction Simpang Lima are close by (just a few minutes drive), and the culinary options in the neighborhood are plenty, both for halal and non-halal food.
I have not tried the swimming pool so I can't comment much. But this far, the experience has been enjoyable for only around IDR 350,000 per night (Semarang hotels are infamous to be on the pricey side these days). I would definitely come again given...
Read moreThe plus: Great location, next to night market. food is decent and breakfast menu is varied enough. Nice food selection at lunch/dinner too. Pool is great to have after a hot day. Lots of families with children hang out there.
The minus: rooms are clean but not immaculate. Patio door soundproofing in my room is not great. Hot water in early morning is not hot and sink water pressure is very low (shower pressure is ok, maybe it's my room problem). Had to buy shampoo and soap because they use the pink soap as shampoo 😯 and bar soap was so small! It's more like a hand soap bar. Still for the price per night, I don't mind much. There's a convenience store right in front of the hotel.
The great: Staff! Everyone is very friendly and try their best to make you happy. It feels like 5 star service in 3 star hotel! Some staff English is better than others, but everyone managed to understand me and satisfy my requests, with a smile and very polite. Employee Dimas went above and beyond for me, we chatted at the lounge bar and he told me of great locations to visit, even gave me a ride after his work day to show me around. We chatted for hours and now I have an indonesian friend! 🙏 This means a lot for someone travelling solo!
Thank you Dimas and everyone at Quest Hotel for making my stay a memorable one! All in all, this is a great value hotel and staff made me quickly forget about the small negatives. I will definitely come back next time I'm...
Read moreLocation wise is very strategic, as person who like walking, there’s no other way to sightseeing the neighborhood by walking, we did Chinatown, johar market, post kantoor, old city , batik village tawang train station at once walk. When this review is made, the price was reasonable. The front office crews was friendly and helpful We booked the executive room, and was spacious enough. Unfortunately the wiring system and lighting was bit odd. There’s a long table that I assumed is working desk, there’s no table light or enough light so tend to be dark. There’s a coffee kettle that require to be plugged in but there’s no plug near the coffee and tea station so we have to-find our way by moving the kettle which is not practical Due to the lack of ornaments in the room, the acoustic of the room is very sharp and sometimes can hear the echoes of our voice. Despite of those things breakfast buffet is the only one that require to be stepping up. Tasteless and unappetizing, for such country or town that very proud of their culinary heritage, the quest hotel buffet breakfast is nowhere near that pride. Assorted fresh fruits literally translated only two fruits. By saying that, I do believe the hotel got his potential and definitely will recommend this place to our colleagues whenever they like to...
