We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Drago. The staff were all very friendly and our room overlooking the lake was really nice and big.||In the main it was good value for money and we would stay again. ||Following some negative reviews, it is clear that they have made improvements, and it looks like they have installed new air conditioning, our's worked perfectly. There were posters around encouraging feedback on Trip Advisor so that they can continue to improve, which is good to see.||My only negative feedback was with the half-board option. The menu was unimaginative and poor value (€20 per person per night). Some items were repeated, and whilst I eat pasta, it isn't my favourite food. So a first course of pasta with either a simple sauce or a very sparse sprinkling of minced beef wasn't a great experience. ||Second course tended to be a piece of meat with either roast potatoes or green beans. On 2 consecutive days it was; day 1, two slices of pork with green beans, day 2, a pork chop with green beans. (I noted on the menu selection that the green beans on day 1 were cold. So on day 2 they pointed out that they were hot!)||The deserts were OK though (although the seasonal fruit was 2 hard nectarines!) I make better 'Italian style' food at home, so disappointing that I couldn't experience any passion from the chef!||We observed that the restaurant was very quiet, other than when a coach party were staying at the hotel. Only a few couples who had seeming prepaid for the half-board were regular each night, but looking at the plates only partially eaten on the other tables suggested they weren't impressed either.||With having to select the choice for the next day from a limited menu, surely the quality could be improved as there should be little waste.||Rating system doesn't have 'good' which is what I would say our experience was (rather...
Read moreHotel Drago is a very basic 3 star hotel. It immediately overlooks Lake Garda and there are lovely views from the balconies of the front bedrooms if you are happy to pay a supplement for them! Being on the front though means that the road is extremely noisy and not any good if you are a light sleeper. The other bedrooms are round the side or back with very restricted views. The bedrooms are basic, uninviting, no pictures on the walls and have a very small screen TV with only one English speaking channel CNN News. I stayed for 7 nights and found this privately run hotel lacking in many ways. It appeared to me that the management are running this hotel to suit themselves and generally has an inflexible attitude to their guests. I was disappointed that I was unable to get a glass of wine in the bar or that any light snacks were offered with drinks. The only way to drink wine was by purchasing a bottle at inflated hotel prices. The restaurant was always busy with guests from coach tours and the food was very average. The waiters worked exceptionally hard to serve everyone but it sometimes took a very long time to get your food! There were very few other restaurants or bars near the hotel that were open and therefore if was difficult to go elsewhere to find proper Italian food. The Reception staff had to adhere to the rules of the hotel and, unlike other international hotels, were inflexible in their dealings with their guests. There is a definite need for training in Customer Services at this hotel! It is a shame as I always try to find the positives when I travel but sadly with this hotel there are more negatives than positives. I hope this...
Read moreGreat location and staff. Dog friendly. One of the staffs asked to not take our dog on the lift because of possible people with allergies.. never heard that before bit as we got a room on the first floor it was not a big deal. Rooms are bit old and bed uncomfortable air conditioning don’t do the job well but everything was really clean. Location was perfect! Hotel also provides SUP boards and bicycles which is very handy! Cons: parking is quite tight and there is no control of were to park specially when someone has a big car that won’t fit in a spot and ended up using two. Biggest Con: The hotel kitchen! breakfast.. total disappointment everything tasted like it was there for the whole season. The dinner was terrible, I had it one day and mist not recommend. There are some options for half pension. Do yourself a favor and don’t book it. This region has access to great fresh ingredients, Italian food rely on the simplicity. No reason to have such bad kitchen but bad management.
In overall we came here for the stay and in that it was...
