New Generation Hostel Lake Como — Hotel in Como

We stayed in this hostel from the 17th-21th of June, initially we excountered little to no problems with pleasant hospitality however after payment our experience quickly deteriorated Initially we was faced by a poor level of cleanliness “room cleaning” simply occurred of making beds for new visitors, this saw the toilet left unclean and developing a simply disgusting smell of urine Secondly this hostel advertised air conditioning, this couldn’t me further from the truth our room of 6 had one fan, this lead to windows having to be kept open and due to the location we was faced by mosquitos/flys entering the room at night. to add to the discomfort of the room the beds were unbearable, the pillows were awful and the lack of rules lead to people showering past a standard quiet hour thirdly, to make our stay easier we opted for the breakfast option - this was simple a croissant and a small cappuccino, this usually took upwards of 30 minutes to come furthermore, the kitchen was horrific, dirty appliances, no extractor fans, a broken tap which produces boiling hot water with no warning and no bowls or glasses and limited plates and cutlery

now despite all this the blatant arrogance and rudeness of staff is the reason for the review, on our final day we decided to extend as we had enjoyed como and felt we had more to do, at 12:10 on the 20th we called the hostel asking if we could extend our stay by 1 night, they said this was fine and the conversation went no further, when we arrived back at thr hostel later that evening we went to reception to double check this was still the case and we was assured it was, however on the morning of the 21st we was rudely awaken by staff saying we didn’t have a reservation, we explained the situation numerous times and decided to ask for a manager to make the process easier, they refused, instead the acting manager blatantly lied claiming he was there when we returned and we was told there was no rooms and to add salt to the wounds he insisted we paid a late check out fine aswell, once again we asked for a manger and this lead to the member of staff eventually calling the staff who was meant to book us in- he admitted he did not and it was his fault, this showed to ourselfs this hostel has little standards for customer satisfaction after this they made no effort to help us find a place to stay, find room in the hostel (which there was according to hostel world) leading us to inevitably have to move on costing us large chunks in further bookings and travel

as compensation for there numerous mistakes and poor hospitality we was offered a bottle of water and nothing else, bottom line i would never reccomend this hostel, furthermore i would reccomend them having serious conversations with staff about basic...

I cannot recommend this place to anyone, at least not the 16 person dorm. The place was pretty rough I'll try keep a relatively short list but this place doesn't make that easy: the kitchen was not the one pictured (see picture) and seems like it would violate some sort of code, no soap or hand towels in the bathrooms, ants everywhere (don't leave your bags in the lockers if you have food in them), incredibly slow check in process, overpriced for two people with bikes (10€ per bike to park it in a storage closet that you don't get access to), tourist tax not included in the initial price on their website (book through booking.com and you'll also get breakfast included), way way too noisy to sleep as you're right beside the main road heading up the lake from Como and the hostel has no quiet hours (plus a squeaky ceiling fan with a loose wobbly light shade), the lights never turn off outside with there being no curtains and the toilet ones are on sensors and are too bright, mattress protectors are all dirty, some even with holes (see picture), and last but not least there is a general feeling of lack of trust between staff and guests, you aren't allowed to leave the premises with your key and there is signage everywhere about fines for misconduct. To top it all off too, there were people checking into the dorm for the next night before people had even woken up (at 7am). At a pinch this place could be okay for 1 person for 1 night, as it is in a decent location near the lake, but otherwise book literally anything else, I've had better sleeps sleeping on the floor...

I had a very bad experience with New Generation Hostel. I made a confirmed reservation through Booking.com, but when I arrived at the hostel, the reception told me I couldn’t check in because my booking was for a women’s room by mistake. I asked if they could change my reservation to a men’s room, but they refused and said there was no space available.

The staff were unhelpful and showed poor customer service. Even though I couldn’t stay there, they did not refund my money. I contacted Booking.com multiple times by email and phone, but I received no support and no refund.

This situation was very disappointing and unprofessional. I lost my money for a reservation I couldn’t even use. I would not recommend this hostel to anyone — be careful when booking here, as they don’t seem to care about their guests or...
