We stayed here from a search online. The Val di Funes (Italian) / Villnoss (Austrian) is a very quiet place. So quiet we felt it almost unbelievable that we heard children at school playing in some distant landscaped mezzanine. We made the pilgrimage here because I wanted to see the Odle/Geisler mountain range and some time away from the world walking in the mountain air. ||||Upon a hairy arrival in the car in some of the narrowest roads I've ever seen, we were greeted by a very quiet but immaculately kept hotel and resident. The hotel is above the main - tiny - village of St Peter in the Val Di Funes. It was so quiet for the time we were there that it felt the hotel was empty - but for literally a few others. ||||The house/hotel is kept immaculately. Really immaculately. The owners, who you see at breakfast, are helpful and friendly (and Austrian, obviously) and are non-invasive. It feels very private and very quiet - but it was a welcome break from the rest of our trip :)||||I asked for a room overlooking the Odle - I could see it from bed :) Shame it rained most of the time and the "Panoramic view walk" was a walk around some lovely green hills in drizzle. Still, early in the morning, just for a while, the balcony in our room became a wonderful viewing platform with a feeling that the view and everything in it was all ours. ||The rooms are well kept, well equipped and comfortable. They are typically Austrian - as are all of the buildings - and made almost entirely of wood. ||||It is situated up on one steep side of the valley - one night we visited the Lamm Bar (a MUST if you are here) and found the 500m vertical ascent back up to the hotel, less than half a mile away really, REALLY for those who are fit only (especially after a drink or two!). There was really only one place which was a viable option for food in the evenings in late April/early May - but it was good enough and so we visited every night.||||The whole valley is a wonder. The Toeglhof Residence added so much to the experience of it - with its stuffed animals in the immaculate and almost sterile reception and top of the range lift in a traditional Austrian building. It's a bundle of contradiction - but it's very much loved by its owners and their hard work shows and creates a feeling of absolute professional care.||....They'll even let you raid the "bar" if you note what you have taken. ||||A great place to base yourself for a walk around the...
Read moreIts a great coincidence and truly fitting that my 100th hotel reviews on TripAdvisor is for my most favorite place on earth - Residence Toeglhof.||||We did a huge amount of research for a good place to stay in Val Di Funes. After all, the place is magical and one would only want to enhance the experience with a comfortable hotel.||||I am happy to declare that Residence Toeglhof exceeded our expectations, and then some. We were so enthralled by the hotel and the Dolomites that we extended our stay by another night and still couldnt make ourselves leave when the day came.||||It would be incorrect to call it a room, it was more like an apartment. There was a full fledged kitchen with all necessary amenities (cutlery, tea and coffee maker, kettle etc.) The bed was amazing and the room was very well kitted out. The balcony has to be their USP, the way it looks out to the majestic mountains and offers unparalleled views right from your vantage chair. Its a sight that I can never forget.||||They are located a short walk/drive away from the town center, so food was never an issue. The central location of the hotel also meant that we could make it a base and explore the Val Di Funes by car easily.||||I regret that it was a 4-night stay for me. If it was in my control, I would love to live at Residence...
Read moreCompared to the two other apartments we stayed in during our trip, this was the most expensive and least friendly. The strange thing was that the website shows cheaper options (Geisler apartments), but these were allegedly full, although none of the other few guests we met at breakfast were using these? Either the owner had closed part of the hotel because of low season or his strategy was to first rent out the larger apartments. ||The rooms are well kept and clean and the view and surroundings are beautiful. Excellent breakfast. A very nice valley for hiking. You will need a car to reach...
