We were walking the Via Francigena and stopped in Gambassi Terme for a night. Teresa, the hostess, is the most amazing person and certainly made this a 5 star event. I think even if we had to sleep outside in a swag, just having Teresa with her warm, friendly personality and helpful assistance makes the Villa Della Certosa the premium choice when staying in Gambassi. We arrived a little early (before their 3pm opening time) but were able to have Teresa look after our bags while we toured the town and found some lunch. Our room on the ground floor had a kitchen with full amenities, opening out on to the terrace. The bathroom and double bedroom were spotlessly clean with everything necessary for a comfortable night. Teresa was very informative of places to eat and we were definitely not disappointed. The following morning Teresa supplied the breakfast, including hams, cheeses, fresh croissants, fruit, cereals, etc. Plenty for everyone about to embark on the Via Francigena. Being from Australia we like a Flat White coffee and with a little ‘instruction’ Teresa came up with the goods. Even if you do not decide to stay at Gambassi Terme, you should try to meet Teresa – definitely one...
Read moreThis is a cute B&B that was clean and functional. We stopped here as we were walking the Via Francigena. We were greeted by what I assume is Teresa before our check-in time and she was friendly and professional. ||||It was a bit weird when she asked about our phone number and we said we could give her our Canadian one, as well as our European temporary one, and she said to put both as it would be easier to reach us directly should there be a problem with the room instead of phoning the police which would take a week. Bizarre to say the least.||||The bed was quite hard, but we slept well after a 24 km walk during the day. The breakfast was very simple and the cappuccino was cold. I'm not sure I can fully recommend the place, but for a night of rest walking the Via Francigena, it's certainly...
Read moreThis beautiful place is made all the more exceptional by the amazing Teresa who could not have done more to make sure our one night stay was enjoyable. Myself and friends stayed after a very wet days walking the VF. On arrival she organised a fab restaurant for us to eat that evening, told us how to dry out our walking boots for the next days walk and was on hand for anything we needed. Her love for this beautiful place is palpable and adds so much to a stay here. Accommodation is very spacious and clean. Two shared a large suite - bedroom with double and single bed and kitchen living area with doors leading to large terrace. The sofa in living room opens out to double bed so could accommodate more. Breakfast was good with...
