This hotel is a family run business with mostly friendly staff but the hotel caters mainly for OAP bus trips and school trips. The standards reflect this. ||||The food||The half board option should be avoided because everything is cheap and basic (unless that floats your boat). Expected to be served tinned pineapple or mixed fruit for dessert, tinned carrots, chicken and chips, you know the score. Choice of three items (table service). There is only a casual link with what you choose and the dish that turns up, with creative menu descriptions building up your expectations to be trashed by the delivery.||||(a) Breakfast: The key criticism is the severe lack of choice and low quality. Several days the only bread available was white rolls, not particularly fresh. Scrambled eggs were on offer a couple of days only. There are no other hot items on offer. Other than bread, there is a limited selection of cereals, pastries and apples and oranges (no bananas or other fruits).||||(b) Dinner: There is a one hour slot to get your dinner, but don't worry, you will not be missing much if you don't show up. A couple of the starters and the cake for dessert tasted quite nice but the main courses were unanimously disappointing, bordering on the point of being comical on several occasions. One of our party ordered the cold meat platter and was presented with a plate covered with turkey ham with a dash of olive oil and a bit of lettuce! One other night we were served old tough beef with gravy and mash. The availability of side dishes is pretty much non existent and availability of salads is patchy, forget it if others get there first.||||The owner's young children are often around the hotel. The experience in the dining room suggests they must be doing most of the cooking and ordering of stock. Make sure you have a good lunch.||||The rooms||The rooms were quite clean but are very dated and must take the coach trip clientele back to their youth. The air conditioning/heating has been switched off by management which was irritating as the hotel is advertised as having this facility and it would have been beneficial to use on a couple of occasions. The walls are paper thin, EVERYTHING that is being done next door and beyond can be heard.||||The hotel couldn't take payment from my card upon check out as their card machine was not working. This delayed our departure and another member of our party had to settle on our behalf or we would have missed our flight.||||I would not recommend this hotel, did not feel I got value for money. Nor Lido de Jesolo which has about as much charm...
Read moreFood: The breakfast is average tasting but good enough, the hotel provides a buffet of mini croissants with sugar dust, bread rolls that are quite hard (I thought they were not fresh but actually they are fresh inside but appear very hard!), mild yellow cheese slices, salami, ham, plain yoghurt, variety of jam packets and butter, coffee from a machine, tea bags, and two cereals: Cornflakes and chocolate rice crispies from an Italian brand. There is a big supermarket next door if you want to buy other things for children, you can pre-order roast chicken for 5.6 euros and 12 euro per kilo of roast potatoes. We bought salad with it from the delicatessen area, drinks, and had a family meal on the beach one day. The hotel cafe is average, with basic foods like panini, pasta and expensive for Italian places (10 euro for pasta with plain tomatoe sauce versus 6 euro elsewhere outside of the tourist strip) however this is the case all around this hotel. We ventured out to the town centre and I highly recommend a short number 3 bus ride (minutes walk from hotel) to Tempini restaurant where the fish and pasta, pizza etc. is fresh and amazing flavours prevail. Also very reasonable prices, 6-7 euro for most pizzas, same with pasta dishes. Tempini portions are absolutely huge so I would advise to go very hungry (the seafood pasta comes in a serving plate which could feed two!).||There is no hot water kettle to make tea and coffee in the room, and limited room service, the service in the cafe area of the hotel was a little slow and the coffee in my opinion was not to the standard expected in Italy (we may have been spoilt by other Italian vacations). ||Room:The bed is firm and for me was comfortable enough. The room furniture is dated and worn, bed covers a little retro but all v clean (the room is well represented in pictures). Balcony view of the sea was lovely, try to get a room on first floor as this is a bigger balcony. We stayed in 503 which is a triple room. The double bed is like a king. The AC works well, everything is very clean, plenty of clean towels in bathroom, shower powerful but no bath. ||In this area we hardly used the room except few occasions to relax and play board games in the balcony whilstittle one played with toys. All in all a relaxing vacation that catered for us all. We stayed for 4days.||In Lido De Jesolo town go to the best award winning cafe Colombina for artisan ice cream and great tasting coffee and a lovely owner who is expert on the fresh ingredients and allergens in his ice creams, gluten free, dairy and egg free feature in his...
Read moreWe enjoyed our stay in Jesolo at Hotel American. It was great to see a family run business, everyone working together and the children playing. The food we were served was tasty (at supper) and the breakfasts were your typical European buffet of breads, jam, yogurt, meats, cheese, coffee etc.||Our room had a huge deck but we didn’t get to enjoy it due to time and weather, but ask for the rooms above the entrance if you plan to stay awhile & enjoy the deck!||My one complaint would be that our room had been sprayed with some kind of very very strong air freshener, that was almost unbearable for me (scent issues). Maybe use a softer scent like vanilla or something not so strong. I did ask around to our group and the entire hotel was NOT like this. An isolated case I think.||Outlets are also non existent next to the beds so that makes it hard for my husband to plug in his C-PAP machine. Ended up just sleeping at opposite end of the bed though and using the outlet by the door. It all worked out. ||We enjoyed the couches in the lobby, for visiting and also made use of the hotel cafe and had a couple drinks. Try a hot chocolate with amaretto! ||The hotel is close to some shopping, lots of restaurants, an arcade place, grocery store... and best of all the beach! We were here in the off-season but did take a stroll to the beach! I believe there is a pool too but again, it was off-season.||Would definitely stay here again if I ever come back to the area! A wonderful family and a cozy...
