We were part of a group of 14 booked in for a Christmas break. Lovely hotel, nicely decorated for Christmas (inside and out). Room was on the small side and no tea/coffee provision - though this is not a usual facility on the continent - but otherwise perfect. Comfy beds, nice bathroom with large walk-in shower, in-room safe and good view over ski-centre and mountains and always clean and tidy. The hotel has a cosy 'snug' lounge and two large dining rooms. Food was excellent throughout our stay. ||The only real downside was the level of staffing in the evening. A young waitress, Sara, was tasked with serving the evening meal AND with serving at the bar situated at the other end of the hotel. An impossible task that meant a fair amount of waiting around in both restaurant and bar. She was delightfully cheerful, with excellent English, but just had too much to do - and if there was ever a query, the management default was "See Sara" - probably because her English was so much better than that of the management. In the end we ended up calling her "Cinderella", she had so much to do.||Management really needs to look at its staffing levels - a more demanding group would have had cause for serious complaint.||Dobbiaco Village itself is well worth a visit as is the Dobbiaco cross-country ski centre which boasts the most extensive trails in the whole of Europe. ||Bolzano, Brunico, Baranci and Cortina are all within reach and the area is served by "Ski Bus" and "Ski Train"...
Read moreVery newly updated, this hotel was a real pleasure for us during a Nordic ski trip in January 2023. One can ski from almost right outside the hotel or walk a short distance to the Nordic Arena.||For Nordic ski, the location is thus quite excellent - for downhill, not so much. For hiking or cycling, the location would serve well with short drives to some good hikes and some potential hikes from the hotel, including a walk on the Nordic trail from the Nordic Arena towards Tre Cime (though not TO Tre Cime as that would be quite the excursion!).||We had a truly lovely and spacious room with a sitting area and sleeping area separated by a partial wall, an enormous bathroom and a quite sizable balcony. As the Dobbiaco prices are not Cortina prices, splurge a little and get a nice room!||The one thing that did have us worried was that the quality of the construction seemed like it might not last as long as one might hope - that is, not the construction itself but the materials being thin, not high-end, etc. I do hope that the owners are able to maintain the condition to close to the near brand-new state that we found it in.||The breakfast buffet was fine (not five star hotel quality, but this is not a five star hotel!). The dinners were also good and an exceptional value in a half-board reservation, but you might wish to leave a night or two to try a local restaurant (see our Refugio...
Read moreCan’t say enough about my visit! Location can’t be beat for exploring the region. ||I took advantage of an off-season four-night package in late September/October. Incredible hospitality and the package was a great value. ||Hotel team caters to visitors looking to hike and/or mountain bike to enjoy the wonderful scenery. Each morning guests are greeted with a newsletter with a suggested hike and a group cycling option. The desk staff is also very helpful in suggesting alternate routes to match the the weather (and skills of the visitor). Hotel is also a short walk from a Nordic ski center that looks like it may thrive in the winter. There are bike rentals on site (good bikes, at that) as well as a mechanic and a bike wash station. There’s also an outstanding bike shop nearby that rents mtn, gravel, and e-bikes of all kinds. ||Rooms are very recently modernized and very comfortable with all the modern amenities. Really quiet with great views of the nearby mountains. ||Encourage visitors to go with the 3/4 board option, which includes a good breakfast buffet and a beautiful 6-course meal in the evening. Chef was quite good! Great wine selection and an array of grappa and other local spirits at the bar. ||Definitely plan to...
