We lead small culinary tours to different regions of Italy, and this was our first time bringing the group to Salsomaggiore Terme (we have stayed there on our own previously). We brought a group in September to stay at Albergo Casa Romagnosi, and although we found the owner to be a little less than warm, we fully expected to return the next week with our new group to stay again. TWO DAYS before our next reservation I received an email from the owner, Antonella, that due to "technical reasons," our reservation had been moved to another hotel and that there were jobs that needed to be done. Since we had the shortest stay, we got the boot, basically. The hotel we were moved to was deplorable - not at all the same standard - and because of this, we were forced to relocate to a completely different town, uproot our travelers (causing a considerable amount of disgruntled individuals), and cost some restaurants in town their profit for the evening. Meanwhile, during the short time we were still in town, I witnessed many travelers checking in & out of the hotel. I can't imagine what was done on our end to deserve this completely unprofessional treatment, but without a doubt, we will not be returning to Salso. Antonella and Casa Romagnosi's unacceptable treatment of our group and our reservation is something that everyone should be aware of before entrusting your vacation or...
Read moreStayed here for three nights. Staf were super friendly and helpful. When we arrived at Salsomaggiore train station on a Sunday none of the taxi drivers were working s owe phoned the hotel and they arranged for a driver to come pick us up, they also arranged for a taxi for us to get to Fidenza train station when we left and skip out the train from Salsomaggiore to Fidenza hassels. This hotel had nice spacious rooms, quiet, clean, well maintained daily. Rooms had a fridge, safe, hair dryer, comfortable bed, nice sofa, TV and free wi-fi. The hotel had an onsite restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a free buffet breakfast. Breakfast was a good selection of eggs, bacon, pastries, cereals, juice, fruits, mini-sandwiches, quiche, pizza and other items. We were always full after!! The hotel has a nice bar /lounge to grab a drink and relax too. Can't thank the staff enough for making our visit a really good one. We were visiting off-season as Salsomaggiore is more of a summer town but don't let that dissuade you from visiting anytime. The spas are open year round and there are plenty of restaurants and sights to see, with the local salt castles offering tours. Loved our time here and thanks again to all the staff who went out of their way to make it such an enjoyable...
Read moreSmall, family-managed (and closely managed!) hotel in the very center of the town, with newly refurbished, spanking clear rooms.||||Staff is helpful, pleasant - and fast! We loved our few days there. ||||Breakfast buffet is quite complete for an Italian hotel, with 4 passable gluten-free biscuits, fresh fruits, various cereals, milk and yoghurt, some eggs and bacon, various cold cuts and a couple of cheese varieties. ||The most surprising feature on top of this all is an amazing assortment of a dozen kinds of pastries and biscuits, and a couple of cakes, freshly baked daily with incredibly light dough. If you have always been skeptical of Italian-style sweet breakfasts, this will win you over.||||We had our New Year's Eve dinner there, with a few dozen other guests. It was blissfully free from half-hearted entertainment and amazingly rich with great local food and original recipes prepared to perfection. ||||One warning for completeness' sake: from our room you could hear people blowing their nose in neighbouring rooms, which may annoy some. ||||If we ever get back to Salsomaggiore, we will...
