5/5 experience! Came to Italy with a group of friends for two weeks and the four nights we stayed at Charme Hotel Uhrerhof were our absolute favorite! For the rest of the trip, we wished we were back at this hotel enjoying the wonderful hospitality, the amazing spa facilities, the beautiful grounds and views, the comfortable rooms, and the delicious food. ||The hotel is tucked up above Ortisei in the small village of Bulla and the views from the infinity pool, the panoramic sauna, and even our room window were stunning! The bus stop was a short walk (less than 5 minutes) down the road and was super convenient to catch into town (and free thanks to the Val Gardena bus pass!). We alternated our days between hiking some of the iconic Dolomites trails in the region and relaxing at the hotel/spa. The facilities were spotless, well appointed, and very comfortable, whether you wanted to take a dip in the pool, relax and read on one of the lounging chairs/beds, or try out the sauna. We didn't end up booking any of the additional spa activities (bio sauna, etc.) because we were so satisfied with what was already available, but I'm sure those would have been just as wonderful. ||We took the option of half-board as a group and in addition to plentiful breakfast options (including made to order eggs and a fresh juicer!), each dinner was truly an amazing experience. Several courses including salads and a new soup every night. One of our friends had a dietary restriction and the staff were very accommodating. The hotel posts each menu in the morning and you can opt-out if you choose to dine elsewhere, but we never did! One of the nights we were doing a wine tour about an hour away that overlapped with the dinner time and we asked in the morning if we could be a little late and they were able to accommodate us! We could have easily eaten elsewhere, but we didn't want to!||All of the staff and family members that run the hotel were extremely friendly, helpful, and welcoming. They even took note that it was my birthday during our stay and gave me a lovely note and small take-away gift at breakfast. Little details like that definitely set apart Charme Hotel Uhrerhof and made our stay that much better. ||If/when I come back through the region, I will definitely been staying here again and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone...
Read moreRacist. Extremely uncomfortable experience. Such a shame to have to write this review and experience this, because the start of our stay we were on cloud 9 with the charm of the place and of course the Dolomites.
This family run hotel sits POC guests as far away from the white guests as possible. I’ve actually never experienced anything like it, I felt like I had woken up in the 1800s.
For breakfast, our assigned table (2 hispanic, 1 Arabic) was the most tucked away table in the place. We made a joke and laughed it off, I can name one time in 28 years where I have felt blatant racism….I don’t call things racist lightly. Until dinner, where we had to embarrassingly look for our table in the dining room just to be walked OUT of the dining room where everyone else was, and the only other POC party was, (other was a very nice Asian couple) OUTSIDE of the main dining room and a far walk from the food.
When I confronted the family who owns it the next day, simply by asking for a better table, the mother came out with a very stern “NO”. No other explanation, seemed extremely bothered by me asking this. I simply asked why and she went on the explain how she couldn’t move any of her guests who had been there for weeks etc etc. She was physically flustered, isn’t this a regular question for a guest to ask? I wasn’t even arguing this point, seeing her that bothered by a simple question was baffling. And confirmed everything we were feeling, might I add.
She ended up moving us to the main dining room. No arguing, just her being in complete disarray, arguing with herself nearly.
We show up to dinner that night, the lovely asian couple had also gotten moved right next to us in the main dining room. After all the fuss of not being able to move any guest, she moved both of us. Unsure if it was to prove a point, or to not want to sit white guests alone outside with POCs. Or perhaps they also complained, we’ll never know.
Never in my life have I felt such blatant, disrespectful racism. On top of this, there are religious figures and witch like trinkets everywhere, we even found a seemingly evil clown stuffed animal the wellness area. So the rest of the stay, we were uneasy and just trying to enjoy what we had paid for, but it was hard.
We wouldn’t come...
