Il Rifugio del Lupo — Hotel in Scanno

We didn't actually stay in il Rifugio del Lupo, but stumbled upon it as we searched for somewhere to eat near the Lago di Scanno. Like most of the restaurants in the area, it had the appearance of being closed - as there were hardly any tourists at the start of July (which is crazy, because the whole area is absolutely stunning!) - but when we arrived there was a great smell of grilled meat which was enough to get us to stay.||||The food was excellent, and reasonably priced. We had a mixed grill with arrosticini etc. The kids loved playing outside, where we could easily keep an eye on them, and all in all we had a truly memorable meal.||||The best part though, was yet to come. We had walked to the restaurant from the nearby lake - but ominous dark clouds descended while we were there, and with two small kids a walk through the rain, in the dark didn't appeal to us, so we enquired about a taxi; no go, unfortunately, as it was out of season etc. As we prepared to go out into the dark night, though, the mild-mannered owner of the rifugio came and offered us a lift to our hotel. The young proprietor, Matteo, and his family have created a perfect setting for a getaway in this rustic lodge and restaurant. Tucked away on a wooded hillside next to the road that runs between the Lago di Scanno and the village of Scanno, it has a pretty view of the mountain village. In the kitchen, Matteo’s Aunt prepares genuine traditional recipes with the freshest ingredients and local products. The antipasto of local vegetables and prosciutto and the homemade pasta with fungi or a variety of sauces were all delicious. We especially enjoyed the entree of whole stuffed lake trout fresh from the nearby lake. The ambience is friendly, comfortable, spacious, clean and natural. The hosts know all about the region and are eager to make you feel at home. Dogs and children are welcome and there is plenty of space on the terrace and gardens, which are set far back from the road, for children to play in safety. We did not need lodgings ourselves, but with easy access to the lake, the village, trekking and cycling, il Refugio del Lopo would be an excellent home base for athletes as well as people who just want to relax and enjoy the...

Forviati dalle recensioni positive, prenotiamo due notti a metà luglio in questo albergo a Scanno. E' una zona di montagna decadente, che ha vissuto glorie passate, ma comunque interessante e con paesaggi incantevoli. L'albergo ha un buona posizione per il sentiero del cuore di Scanno, ma le cose belle terminano qui. Siamo una famiglia di 4 persone, con un cagnolino e ci assegnano la camera 14. Per la prima volta (e viaggio anche per lavoro, oltre che per piacere) ho pensato di andare via subito nonostante fosse tuttopagato in anticipo (e capisco anche il perchè.....). Facciamo fatica a girarci in 4, sarà stata di 10-12 mq o giù di lì: adatta per 2 persone al massimo. L'arredamento di legno, vetusto e da rinnovare; i muri sporchi, con diverse macchie. Sono presenti 2 finestre: una con ragnatele importanti (non create dal ragno la sera prima, per capirci) e una, in alto, senza tende oscuranti per cui sveglia per tutti alle 5 (a metà luglio...) !!! Ma la chicca viene in bagno: la cassetta del water non ha il coperchio, per cui se non si scatta fuori velocemente dal bagno dopo aver tirato l'acqua, si ha anche il "piacere" di una doccetta mentre si ricarica il water. Schifoso e indecente. Abbiamo accrocchiato con un asciugamano al posto del coperchio. Il box doccia minuscolo. Altro pezzo "forte", la colazione: non è a buffet (e fin qui ci può stare). La mattina sui tavoli si trovano già tante cose: bicchieri con due dita di yogurt bianco, torte fatte in casa (buone, a onor del vero), croissant, marmellate già porzionate in ciotoline e tanto altro. Il tutto confezionato con il cellophane sopra: non invita di sicuro a consumare. A cena non siamo mai rimasti perchè, tra le altre cose, il prezzo che abbiamo pagato è stato sproporzionato rispetto al servizio veramente di bassissimo livello e non volevamo spendere altro: quindi non possiamo giudicare il livello qualitativo del ristorante. Ma lo spazio in cui mangiare e gli ambienti esterni sono estremamente trascurati, con gazebo senza copertura e tavoli e sedie divelte. Il tutto a metà luglio, non fuori stagione. Il prezzo assolutamente sproporzionato per quello che offrono (abbiamo speso per 2 adulti e 2 bimbe 330 € per 2 notti con prima colazione (+ 20 € per il cane)). Nessuno ci ha chiesto se fossimo stati bene (sanno benissimo anche loro cosa non va, vedi coperchio della cassetta del water); ci siamo anche confrontati con altri ospiti e anche loro ci hanno confermato che le loro camere erano al limite (soprattutto, per il prezzo pagato).
