We stayed at this 3-star hotel in the center of Verbania. The hotel has no elevator, no private parking, and no kitchen for a more elaborate breakfast, but what really makes it special is Matteo — the one multi-tasking staff member who gives his heart and soul to make guests feel comfortable and welcome.
The hotel is in a very central location, surrounded by shops and close to the lake. Matteo even let us park our tandem bike in the parking spot normally used for his Vespa. He provided us with all the information we needed, recommended excellent local restaurants, and did his best to make our stay pleasant. The breakfast was simple but fair, especially considering there is no kitchen.
Our room was clean but a bit dark and could have used better lighting. Housekeeping was generally good, though one evening we returned tired and late from a bike trip and found there was no toilet paper in the bathroom — and no one at reception. Our email asking for help wasn’t answered, so we had to search the town for an open store and luckily found a Carrefour.
In summary, while the hotel lacks some amenities, Matteo’s truly personalized service and dedication more than make up for it, making the experience feel better than a typical...
Read moreWe chose to stay at this hotel as it was dog friendly, and we were travelling back from Greece to the the UK with our 2 Scottish Terriers. Hotel La Contrada is tucked away in the narrow streets of the town, which is very charming, but makes it difficult to find by car. We had to park and then search by foot. The hotel has parking at a multi-storey public car park but it cannot be described a close, especially if you have luggage and 2 dogs! Also the car park is not roof box friendly, so we ended up parking in the public car park by the ferry. Luckily it wasn't raining. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was large and comfortable. The breakfast was a continental self service buffet. The hotel is very convenient for the shops, bars and restaurants of Verbania, but be prepared for some street noise early in the evening. We would be happy to stay here again, but may well end up looking for something a little more...
Read moreGood hotel for a good price. It is situated directely in the center of Intra. This is good and bad at the same time. Sea can be reached in 5 minutes. Many restaurants and shops nearby. Problem is the parking. Unloading has to be ordered, so you can park nearby. Parking is possible 300m away, but costs some Euros. The hotel is clean and the staff very friendly and helpful. The room was in second floor with a window to the patio. Size was good. Bathroom a bit old but clean. Breakfast choice is a bit small but tasty. Coffee is also good. Sadly there is no elevator, if traveling with baby cart. But staff helps with all...
