We had the most magical stay at the Kukuna for 3 amazing nights. If you contact the hotel in advance, a driver will meet you at the Kawaguchiko Station around the 3 pm check-in time. It’s only a 10-15 minute derive away so if the driver is not available, it’s just a short cab ride. The staff greeted us warmly and we were shown to a most amazing room in the Kaze no Terrace building. All guest rooms directly face a very large and stunningly beautiful Mt. Fuji. Our room had its own outdoor hot spring on the balcony—highly recommend! We were in the same building as the Grand Spa communal bath (separated by gender) on the top 9th floor which is open to all guests. The food was absolutely delicious! The morning buffet breakfast featured made-to-order omuraisu/omelette rice, a range of Western breakfast choices (potatoes, sausage, bacon, bread) as well as a Japanese choices invoicing crab miso soup, local speciality houtou noodles and soup stock, pickles, natto, even grilled salmon belly! The evening course dinner and buffet are first class. An assortment of carefully prepared meat and fish dishes plus fancy desserts. I highly recommend the teppanyaki experience (NOT Benihana theatrics but amazing grilled dishes) and sushi feast struck by reservation and additional fees. If you like wine, the proprietor purchased a private winery and staff is very knowledgeable about the vintages. The proprietor trained at a Ritz Carlton and the level of service by staff reflects these high standards. Staff members remembered our preferences and went way above and beyond our expectations. We will surely return to this wonderful property....
Read moreWe were expecting a huge amount from this hotel but we were sadly very disappointed with many aspects of how the hotel is run and the stern warnings to international visitors that are all around the Hotel, it appears this Hotel thinks we are out to steal everything that is not locked down. In the Hotel information it should state that there is no option for couples to enjoy the Onsen together unless they are part of a single sex couple. If you want a drink at the bar be sure to stay up for it opening weekdays at 10pm closing at 11pm if its the weekend the lucky people get two hours from 9pm to 11pm. We selected the room with the option for balcony bathing and this was lovely. not so lovely the option to only make the bed up whilst we were at dinner and split the bed into 2 singles it is not a place for a romantic getaway its fine if it is just about the onsen, the views i am sure are spectacular when Mt Fuji is visible but its not much of a hotel if the cloud is down. we have stayed in many wonderful hotels over the years and happy to pay over the odds for exceptional service this hotel has the price tag but not the service i would expect with...
