We had a fantastic short stay in this very homey guesthouse. It is definitely faraway from the pier when you land and if you have a luggage, you will experience real struggle passing by the many people lurking around the area. However, after that, you will be surprised that this place is already a few steps away from the Momijidani Park. :) The owner was waiting for us outside because he wanted to make sure that we will find his cool house. There is a small sign outside the gate that says its name so you will know it is the guesthouse. It’s easier to find when you arrive during the day. The place is so serene! Very clean and old school style Japanese house with clean tatami floors and a receiving area. It has a sala with glass walls where you can view their nice garden, has computer attached to a huge tv and musical instruments that you can use anytime you wish to play. They have art area where you can try origami or calligraphy. There is a huge table to do it. They have lots of pamphlets and maps that will help you enjoy your stay in Miyajima. The best part for me is that they provision drinking water, coffee in an semi espresso machine, milk, sugar and bread crackers! You will never go hungry :) LOOOVEEE THE BREAD that they provision every morning. They sell beer for 200 yen only and also noodles for a good price. You can also cook in their house or even do the laundry in their machine but you have to use coins for it to work. Their have several shower areas! The space is good enough because it has a separate dry place where you can put your cloths and change cloths. The toilet is separate as well. They will provide face towels, bath towel, cotton buds, hair dryer, shampoo, conditioner and facial foam. Rooms are amazing too even if you share it with another traveller. They have private sauna too :) I CAN ONLY SAY GOOD THINGS ABOUT THIS PLACE FOR IT IS COMPLETE, CLEAN, COZY, HOMEY AND...
Read moreThis place was an amazing hidden gem. We actually booked here slightly out if desperation when a vacancy appeared here as everything else on the island was booked solid. When we arrived we were so amazed by the place that we wished we could have extended our stay in Miyajima another night or two.
Our Japanese host greeted us on arrival and showed us around, gave us suggestions on what to do around the island, and took us and our luggage to our room. He was extremely friendly and helpful and spoke very good English.
We got a private traditional style room here, which I would highly suggest. The look and the feel were awesome, and the view out the window was amazing, a beautiful garden right below and the overlooking the ocean and town. The traditional style futons were interesting, although a little hard for us.
Included with your stay is coffee, tea, juice and some snacks as well as some thing for breakfast like cereal and instant ramen. There is a well equipped kitchen if you desire to cook. There is some frozen snacks and beer available for purchase for very cheap prices also.
The bathrooms are all shares, but we had no problems. There is an amazing Japanese style bath with showers to wash and a door that can open to give it the open-air feel. It is completely free and can be used privately. I hadn't realized the guest house had anything like this but it was an amazing way to experience something like an Onsen in private with my wife for no extra charge.
The most amazing thing about this place was the price, we payed 5000 yen a person for two people in a private room. This seemed like the Ryokan experience for a third the price and slightly less services (no dinner, set up and put away your own futons).
I can't suggest this place highly enough, would love to stay here again and Miyajima is a lovely place with many things to see even if it is a...
Read moreLoved this place! I was skeptical (and honestly a little pissed) at first, as it was about a 20 minute walk cough HIKE cough from the ferry station, and because we didn't know the layout off the island we trucked through the sand during part of the walk with our heavy suitcases in tow. HOWEVER, once we made it was worth it! We were greeted and ushered into the lobby where a little deer was seen from the wall of windows nibbling on a bush in the private garden.
The owner (I think?) was so nice and welcoming!!! He really made us feel right at home on the island and gave us maps and pointers on all the sights and restaurants. He also told us about two raccoons who frequent the garden (which we ended up seeing and feeding, all thanks to the owner)!! The lobby tv also had a large movie selection and the owner was kind enough to put My Neighbor Totoro on for us, which was perfect, as we have been trying unsuccessfully to watch it since we planned our Japan trip!
The room we had was amazing. Plenty of space and a gorgeous view. We had to make our own tatami, which ended up being kind of fun :)
Overall, It was a magical place and my friend and I highly recommend.
TIP: I would suggest bringing only an...
