Community hub is how I'd describe Guest house EN. A local came to n to pass on some gobo root from his garden farm for them to use + the owner told me they sometimes have Udon noodle making workshops from local people too.
I haven't stayed in the guest room yet. I went to the bar/eatery and was impressed with how they are promoting local ingredients like wild deer venison from Sera-cho and drinks like Hiroshima gin, Miyoshi wine + Sake from local areas in and around Hiroshima. They also have locally sourced salads and Samurai vegan noodles for vegetarians, flexitarians and others seeking plant-based options.
They used to be open for lunch, but didn't have much demand so now open the space to members of the community to use as a meet up spot - it was full of friendly young parents with babies when I popped in. One young bilingual dad whose also a singer told me of the English Nite event he's doing at EN this month which sounds fun for people who speak English as for those in the community who want to have a chance to practice.
If you're looking for somewhere to mingle with locals in Yokogawa, I think EN is a great place to have a more interesting experience than just drinking and staying in the...
Read moreStayed at Hiroshima Hostel EN for 2 nights. It’s located 4 mins walk from Yokogawa station and location is really convenient. Lots of restaurant nearby. In fact, the first floor of the hostel itself is a bar cum restaurant. Staff is very friendly and speak fluent English. Check-in Process is very smooth and they walk you through the basic rules of staying. Rooms are located on the second floor with mixed dorm room style and a female only dorm. Bathrooms and toilets are shared. Beds are Japanese style mattress and are ok. There’s a locker inside the bunk bed and a power outlet for the phone. For the price and location, it’s excellent choice. If you’re just traveling and need a basic place to stay it’s a good choice. Only gripe I’ve is that due to restaurant with open kitchen, it smells quite a bit. Even upstairs, is a bit smelly. May be the management can add some ventilation to improve the smell..overall, I...
Read moreWe were checking out on what things to do at night in Yokogawa and my wife recommended to try our this cozy guest house who turns into a pub at night. This is not the typical pub or restaurant that I expect but we really had a great time here. We ordered the smoked venison, the Taiwanese stewed pork (Lu Rou) with Udon and it tastes authentic and delicious. My wife and I voted the hand made udon as the best udon we had ever eaten. The manager, Miss WANG we spoke to comes from Taiwan and she manages the guest house and the kitchen. The stew pork is her recipe from Taiwan. The place is cosy and bursting with laughters. I could see the rest of the guests were all having a good time. If you are looking for a casual place to chill out, you can...
