Altitude Madarao — Hotel in Iiyama

We recently stayed at this charming small lodge during our snowboarding trip, and it was an absolute delight! ||||With just around 10 rooms, the atmosphere was cozy and inviting, making it feel like a home away from home. Our hosts, Josie and Jacob, were incredibly friendly and accommodating, ensuring we had everything we needed for a fantastic stay. I can imagine how busy they could be as they almost manage everything that happening, they had made sure they are around for everyone ||||The room was spacious and cozy compared to what you would find in Tokyo at this price point. While the bathroom was a bit tiny, it had a small tub, and we found an optimal spot for our amenities on the TV cabinet. For bathing, we opted for the local onsen, which was decent, and the lodge offered convenient pick-up and drop-off services if you’re not driving.||||Oh and the TV allows for Netflix and YouTube mirroring. We made great use of this feature to watch tutorial Snowboard video while relaxing. ||||Each morning, we enjoyed a delicious hot breakfast prepared by the lodge. Over our 4-night stay, we had a delightful variety, including pancakes, eggs and bacon, ham and cheese croissants, cereal, bakery, and yogurt. There was also a self-serve corner for tea and coffee throughout the day, perfect for unwinding in the sitting room with friends.||||The dry room and playroom were spacious and well-equipped. We arrived early before check-in and were able to use the playroom to change and store our gear. The location is fantastic—just a 2-minute walk to Car Park 7, and you can ski down to the base, with lifts starting at 8:30 AM. Altitude Madarao - A Ski Lodge That Feels Like Home

We stayed at Altitude Madarao from December 23 to 30, 2024, and it was an experience that exceeded all expectations. Even before we arrived, we had to make some changes to our reservation, and the team was incredibly accommodating, setting the tone for a fantastic stay.

Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed and picked up by the hosts, who went above and beyond to help us get our ski rentals sorted. When we reached the lodge, we were pleasantly surprised—it’s one of those rare places that looks even better in person than in the photos.

The lodge itself is a dream. The rooms are comfortable, and the living room is a warm, inviting space that feels like the perfect retreat after a day on the slopes. Honestly, I found myself wishing I could own a lodge just like it!

The hosts—Justin, Kate, Jacob, and Josie—were amazing. They were not just friendly and welcoming but also genuinely fun to be around. They made every guest feel at home, and their support was unmatched. From the delicious hot breakfasts every morning to the thoughtful snacks available throughout the day, every detail was taken care of. They were always ready to help with anything we needed, including a daily shuttle service that made getting around effortless.

And let’s not forget the location—just a 2-minute walk to the slopes! It doesn’t get more convenient than that.

What an amazing experience my family and I have enjoyed at Altitude Madarao lodge on the most beautiful Japanese ski mountain. Not only was the snow falling constantly, allowing for fresh tracks daily, but the lodge was warm and welcoming, and the staff (Jacob, Jose, Justin and Kate) couldn't have been more helpful or accommodating. We only had to walk metres to the end of our street before we could ski down to where a number of lifts could take us to the top of the mountain each day. It was really easy to get to and from the skiing activities daily. We were traveling with three families and were a bit of a rowdy group of all ages and everyone got what they needed from this accommodation and from our generous lodge hosts. There is a great lounge / dining area where you can enjoy the daily breakfast offering or gather for a game of cards and a drink. Hot drinks and snacks are available at all times (some for a small fee) and this came in really handy when we were too tired to head out for a meal or the kids needed an "in between meal" re fuel. Our room requirements were all met really well (all families had varying requirements and children ages 7 to 17) and importantly, the hot water for those post ski baths never ran out! Our whole group would highly recommend this as an accommodation choice on the mountain at Madarao and we hope to return to enjoy this special place again in the future.
