The hotel is located in a lush, green area with hiking trails. Staff is incredibly friendly. The onsen itself is huge with a large central mixed area, and female-only and male-exclusive smaller areas. People are not shy in the mixed area. The temperature of the water varies based on which bath and how close to the water inlet one is.

Breakfast is amazing with almost every imaginable traditional Japanese breakfast food. Dinner is a multi-course meal that is also varied and delicious.

Rooms are mixed modern and transitional with family spaces having twin beds and futons that staff puts out at night to accommodate groups of four.

The hotel itself feels dated but in an elegant old-luxury sort of way. Weekdays are tranquil and peaceful. Weekends are busier but still very calm.

This spa tends to be Japanese-exclusive but it's worth going through the difficulties for English-only speakers, as the entire experience is worthwhile.

The hotsprings open at 5am, close for cleaning from 9a-11a, and have female exclusive hours from 7:30p to 10p. The third floor dinner area has a main dining room and several rooms to accommodate groups of 10-30. Breakfast is located in a different area also on the...

The walks around Kirishima national park were wonderful. If you are here to explore the countryside of Kyushu - then this is an excellent place to be based…if not visiting for the walking, then it might be a bit remote for you. ||But if you stay you will enjoy the big added advantage of a huge and wonderful spa/onsen (if you haven’t experienced onsen - please do try - a must for your trip to Japan). It’s not the most luxurious one you can visit in Japan, but it was one of the largest we enjoyed (and we went to many). ||The meals (all traditional Japanese) were delicious, and were amazing value - we went half board. We stayed for three nights - with different set meals each evening. ||We booked a larger Japanese/western room (our friends booked a smaller one) and the upgrade was definitely worth it. ||The hotel’s common areas and our friends’ room were a little tired - but they didn’t stop us all having a...

Superb konyoku = mixed bathing. The hotel has many types of hot spring waters, sulphur, alum, salt, etc. Some waters are milky, some are clear. We did a day trip and also stayed for two nights enjoying their Kaiseki dinner. The baths opens from 5 - 9 am and 11 am to 12 midnight and we make it a point to try the baths at different times to enjoy the ambience of the baths. Breakfast is buffet style with plentiful of food options. We opted for a Japanese style room instead of a Western twin room. It comes with a sitting area, a large electric kettle, room safe and a bar fridge. Yukatas, towels and bed linens are changed daily. There are plentiful of parking lots, a manicured garden and a Cedar forest. There is also a secret river bath 5 mins from the hotel. Very very nice!

The Japanese room we booked was big enough for both of us to comfortably open our luggage. It was neat and had a lovely traditional Japanese style. Our favorite things were enjoying the relaxing onsen and exploring the beautiful forest near the hotel. There were different types of onsen to choose from, some warm and some very hot. My hands’ eczema gets better after the onsen! 😚 We liked the buffet breakfast more than dinner because there were many delicious food and drink options. The homemade yogurt drink was incredibly tasty, and every guest would have at least one glass in the morning! The hotel also offers free parking and it's easy to reach nearby hiking spots. I would definitely recommend this hotel. ☺️

This was a sizable hotel in the area. On the way to the hotel, sulphur smoke was easily seen. At the time of visit, renovation of some onsens was in progress, so I just used the onsen. Parking for onsen visitors was separated with guests staying in the hotel. Lots of old trees were surrounding the building. A hiking path was built. There was no restaurant opened in the afternoon. The souvenir shop was also closed. The best part was the large onsen, together with some smaller ones around it. Said to be mixed onsen, but no one was expecting a female naked guest entering the it, so letting gentlemen use it freely. There was hot spring solely for women. The fee was reasonable for such a big pool.
