Villabu Resort — Hotel in Miyakojima

Came by for lunch while on business and to see the property.

Small number of beautiful, very private villas with pools and views that go out over a private cove to the sea. When I was there, had a more Italian-style lunch menu, but with each dish featuring some locally or regionally sourced ingredients. The staff was very friendly and helpful the entire time, but it will help if you know at least some basic Japanese. Easy access from Miyako, Irabu or Shimoji - location isn't far from the bridge connecting Irabu and Miyako.

Also, just know that even if you're not a villa guest, you can come for food - call ahead if you can though as it is still a small, intimate space. Good way to mix it up after you've been enjoying some of the local Japanese food for a few days.

(also, have seen a few comments saying the pasta was hard... this could be because they do an Italian approach to cooking pasta - if you don't like it al dente, just be sure...

Our stay at VILLABU Resort was nothing short of exceptional. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, going out of their way to ensure we had a comfortable and enjoyable experience. A special shoutout to Watanabe, who was truly amazing. His kindness and knowledge of the island were invaluable as he took us on a personalized tour of some hidden gems.||While the team may not be fluent in English, their genuine efforts to communicate and assist made us feel welcome and appreciated. The service personal is way beyond the definiton of nice and friendly, extremely helpful and dedicated (I lost my mobile in the taxi and they did everything to help me to get it back) and even if not all of them speak English, they use a translation app which helps a lot. The ocean view and the nature around the hotel as well as the food are outstanding! You can rent a car and bicycles to discover the island directly at the hotel.
