This is a family run hotel. Our room is the highest room with a balcony ! We like the Japanese style room. But our toilet is outside and the if the shower place is in the Onsen. Personally I love this place. Decoration inside is so nice and made me feel so comfortable. Me and my family have a nice stay. The staff are very helpful . Our train stopped due to earthquake and, without any bother, they were able to come to another station to pick up us. Everyday they got shuttle from hotel to the ski resort. Sometime our schedule didn’t match the fixed schedule , they still willing to give us a ride. They are so nice and helpful. We even forgot to checkout on the last day before going to skiing. But they were not mad at us and we can still go for the onsen. It is a place with love. But it was a bit old but I rather to use “ traditional” “ place with history” instead of old. But if you need a place which is very clean and new, do think about it . Last but not least , the onsen was so great. I had twice per day. It was so relaxing with the outdoor view. They got an outdoor onsen but we can’t enjoy it due to earthquakes. Oh yeah , the breakfast is a Japanese breakfast it was great. But western people may not like it as it was breakfast with rice . The dinner and food there was nice too! And thanks for your hospitality!

Free parking Staff/owner speaks english Spacious ryokan rooms The free to use onsen is much nicer than the ¥1000+/hour private onsen. People upstairs, you’ll hear their very loud footsteps even when the walk since it’s wood. I woke up so early in the morning because of them. The aircon we didn’t use since one of the guests is smoking inside the room and when we turn it on, the smell of smoke comes from the aircon since the air just circulates in the same floor and we couldn’t stop coughing. It’s was hot also so we couldn’t sleep well. Basically it’s not worth it for us to pay ¥14,000/per night for two people. I wish smokers are more considerate of others when they stay in hotels and ryokans. Especially for those of us with asthma and sensitive lungs.

Quiet, traditional Japanese place to spend the night, eat and relax in the Onsen hot baths. It is very well located 10 minutes away from the station. A free shuttle from the station is available to pick you up. The owners are very friendly, speak English and are very service minded. The public baths are amazing with a great view on nature. A private Onsen is available for rent (2200 yen). The rooms are traditional and a bit outdated but that's part of the charm. When you open your window you can smell the fresh mountain air. The food they serve at the restaurant is very good for a reasonable price.

As I sat in the Onsen looking at the full moon come up through the branches and snow in the trees and over the mountains I thought about why I love this hotel so much.||||Certainly the Onsen is great. Outside is comfortably warm and inside is hotter. Locals pay to come to use it. ||||The staff is courteous and attentive to the many details that go into a great stay. The warmth from them was genuine and made us feel at home. ||||We stayed in 3 rooms of Japanese style. In the traditional manner they are cold when you come into them, but the heater quickly does its job. Remember to turn the heater on under the low table if you are sitting at it. Bathroom was down the hall and this worked fine.||||We took our breakfasts at Kokufan and enjoyed both the Japanese style with multiple dishes and the Western with a hot pot to cook eggs, toaster at the table with home made jam and fruit/yogurt. The 2 suppers we had were great with multiple courses all beautifully prepared.||||We walked 2 blocks to an absolutely fabulous sushi restaurant on a couple of occasions.||||They had convenient ski storage and a drying room available (we didn't like the kerosene odor from the heaters though)||||Stay here if …||You want a traditional style off accommodation that you can feel at home in. Excellent value for money.||||Stay elsewhere if …||You want to be in walking distance to the ski hills. The owner is kind about driving you 15 minutes to the nearby spots and we rented a guide service to take us...
