The location is fine. No complaints about that, right next to the Shinkansen station.||The hotel staff, policies, rooms, and overall experience-not worth the price I paid-even though it is one of the "cheaper" business hotels. ||Even though I am a resident of japan, the hotel staff insisted that because of my foreign-ness they have some kind of copy of my identity on file-even though my Japanese coworker who checked in at the same time as me was not required to submit any identification. This alone, though it is blatant discrimination, would not be enough to prompt me to warn fellow travelers. ||When I opened my room, moreso than all of my buisinesd and personal trips staying in a variety of hotels, the stench of tabacco with a hint of something that I can only compare to sewage overwhelmed me. I opened both the window and door to my room for several hours but the stench did not lessen. ||The room, and building in general were run down. The curtains and walls were stained: the curtains had some redish orange substance splashed across them; the walls inside the room were at least a few darker shades of yellow/dinge than the hallways. It honestly looked as though they had never made an attempt to clean the walls, which appearEd to have taken quite a beating in general(very poor job of patching up previously damaged walls in both the bedroom and shower room. ||I could have probably handled everything other than the smells, which made my stay a nauseating one. They should have at least provided a bottle of febreeze like many other business hotels are doing these days-though in all honesty, I think that my room was beyond a...
Read moreThey say it's the best hotel in Shirakawa, and maybe it is, but as a seasoned business traveler it was not great. Mostly clean, but don't look under the bed. Bathroom is very small, and so are the paper thin towels. The bed is rock hard, and the pillows are buckwheat and not very comfortable although you do stay cool. the air conditioner is just for show, I couldn't get it to dip below 24C. The rooms smell like smoke, even on a non smoking floor in a non smoking room. The japanese bkfst is good, the english breakfast looked questionabe. I have stayed here twice, and I am told it is the best in town, if that's the case, I guess I would recommend it for...

My stay was comfortable. The room was clean. Towels in the bath room were thirsty and replaced every day. No stale tobacco smell. I would...
