NINJA&GEISHA CAPSULE HOTEL REVIEW
This Capsule hotel was the first one I stayed at during my interrailing trip of Japan, and they’ve really SET the STANDARD for the future hotels I’m gonna be staying at; first of all, the service at the front desk (5th floor) was really good! Even though they’re not fluent in english, they make a BIG effort to help and understand your requests and questions.
The lounge was beautifully decorated with lots of places to sit, eat and relax, also with at least 10 USB plugs for charging. There’s a vending machine with drinks (alcoholic or not), a fridge to store your (konbini) meals, a sink and a microwave (plus chopsticks and water cups).
I don’t know about the men’s floor (3rd floor), but the women’s floor (4th floor) was always clean, great ventilation, nice temperature and lots of accommodations to use (hairdryers, face steamers, hair straigtening iron). You can choose at check-in whether you want a fresh sheets, pyjamas, towel and slippers everyday or not. You also get a locker on your floor, to store your things, with two hangers and a little tray for your shoes. There’s also a washing machine and dryer (300 yen per wash, buy your own detergent). When I couldn’t figure out how to use it, one of the ladies of the staff was nice enough to come down and help me out👍🏼
They also had nice safety measures; like the fact that you need your chip wristband to be able to access the women’s/men’s floor and also to access the lounge, which was a big plus for a female solo-traveler, like myself😊
The capsule was really nice and spacious, so you don’t have to bend your head when inside. You can adjust the lighting in there, there’s a USB-charging plug, ventilation system (on-off button), a little counter and a little mirror and two hangers. You can also store your bigger luggage in the hallway on your floor and it will be secure.
I really liked the showers too. After arriving after a 12-hour flight; to be able to take a nice, warm shower (3 options: rain shower head, normal or small one). There’s also shampoo, conditioner and body soap that smells REALLY nice and makes your skin and hair so soft!
Overall I had a really good experience here and would come back, whenever I’m in Osaka next - and would ofc also recommend this place to my friends and family traveling Japan in the future🇯🇵🇯🇵

Read moreI enjoyed it at this capsule hotel. Although, I would have loved to see the decor of the walls within the capsules.Which wasn't present at the time I visited. Overall the place was great. The staff were friendly. Quite accommodating. They know basic English words but not enough to have a full conversation. Use a translator to communicate, if needed. They do the same too. Have patience. Bathroom, make-up room and showers were clean. Slippers and indoor wear were provided daily. Multiple hair dryers were provided. Along with 2 hair straighteners and 2 curlers. The process to get checked in was fairly easy. Common area is quite large. They have female only space. Smoking area outside too. Late check-in which was favourable for me as a late arrival. 5pm to 1am check-in time. 11am check-out time. You can leave your key in the box provided near the entry point of your level or at the front of reception. Fridge, microwave and hot water provided within the common area. They communicated well with me before arrival. A clothes dryer and laundry machine is on each level. 300 yen for 30 mins clothes wash and 100 yen for 30 mins dryer. Unfortaunelty the dryer broke 4 days into my trip but I managed to find a coin laundry close by (1 min across the road - does close at 7pm). Awaji Station is close. Walk out the "east exit", if you see the stamp. Walk straight out and you'll see 7eleven. The hotel is in the building across the bike station on the opposite side. JR Awaji is down the street through the arcade (street of shops near the family mart). Hankyu line (brown) is the train line. Be careful for some trips, it cam be expensive from here. Plan ahead for some areas. Try to avoid the JR trains from Osaka to this location or you'll end up paying alot.
However downside was the people who did visit. Some were disgusting, leaving rubbish and slippers everywhere. Some people smell horrible too. Not being mindful of others sleeping. On one occasion, I was rudely woken up by someone who opened my pod and didn't apologise. This I don't blame the hotel but the arrogance of others. It's a shared space so be mindful and have...
Read moreStayed here for 4 days initially then extended my stay for 3 more nights. Fantastic value for what you pay and would highly recommend booking in advance. You won't regret it! Some cons are that foreigners often stay here and don't follow the rules and make the common spaces dirty (I'm looking at you! Please take off your shoes!). The lighting is dim and only from the top which looks cool and is great for ambience but functionally it's difficult to do stuff like makeup with poor lighting. And the fact that they leave the window open overnight which lets in a lot of mosquitoes during the time I stayed in November. I killed 5 over the week that I stayed! But the lighting does make them easy to spot so if you enjoy killing mosquitoes it may be fun for you.
Rooms (5/5) - Clean and spacious. Bedding is comfortable and can be cleaned every night at your request. The mattress is a little hard but still very easy to sleep in. The lounge or common area is really just as good as it looks in the pictures. You will generally not have an issue with cleanliness but staff seem to only clean the floor once during the day. So if someone makes a mess early (or doesn't take off their shoes!) It can ruin the experience for others.
Price (5/5) - Best value capsule hotel in Kyoto hands down.
Location (4/5) - Location is not that bad. Although there is not much in Awaji the hotel is less than a few minutes away from 2 major train lines which gives you easy access to all of Kansai. There is also a park nearby the station where a cat lives, you might be able to find him if you want some quiet down time away from the big cities :)
Service and Amenities (4/5) - Service is decent, staff are friendly and all work very hard. Amenities such as tooth brushes, razors, laundry detergent, earplugs etc. you need to pay for which is great if you don't need all of them. It's pay as you go even though they are pretty pricey individually, it's worth it since the rooms are so...
